Principal's Message

The first full week is done. We have reviewed school expectations, PBIS, and even had grade-level town hall meetings to discuss ACAP, attendance, and behavior. The students have responsibilities in our school. We want them to take an active role in their education.

Please pay special attention to our Counselor's Corner and Grade-level Newsletter sections. We will try to keep you informed about things happening at school as we partner in your student's education.

Each year as part of our continuous improvement cycle, we take a moment to survey our families. Please take a moment to complete this year's survey by clicking the link below.

Character word of the month

The HCS character word for the month is courage. Please take this opportunity to talk with your student about how courage can help build self-confidence and a strong sense of identity, which are two great qualities moving forward through middle school and beyond.

A message about honors classes

Starting Monday, August 14th, students must follow a 4-week intervention/Academic Recovery Plan to transfer from an Honors/AP course to a general course. There is a grace period from Aug. 2nd - Aug. 14th, in which no documentation is required for students who transfer from Honors/AP courses to general courses.

After the grace period ends, students who wish to change classes when they encounter academic struggle will follow an Academic Recovery Plan. The process will begin with a teacher/student/parent conference where we will develop an agreed-upon course of action. If the student's course average does not improve beyond a 60 after following the Academic Recovery Plan for four weeks, the student may withdraw from the Honors/AP course.

If your child is enrolled in an honors class, they have until August 14th to withdraw without going through the improvement plan process.

PowerSchool Update

Lots of people are anxious to get into PowerSchool. The PowerSchool Portal should reopen around August 16th. Once it is open, Mrs. Formby will be in classes reviewing PowerSchool login information with students. New students will receive a PowerSchool login during this time. You will be notified when we send parent login information home with your students. Thank you for your patience.

Grade-level Newsletters Grade-level Newsletters

Each week the teachers add their information to one newsletter for each grade. We compile all the information for you in one spot, so you don't have to go through emails from seven different teachers. Each grade-level newsletter is divided by subject and teacher.

Please pay close attention to the newsletters. There are a couple of subjects taught by more than one teacher. You must know your child's teacher to ensure you are looking at the correct information. If you need to contact a teacher, click their hyperlinked name at the top of their section, and you can send the teacher an email quickly and easily.
