Faculty Meeting
Faculty Meeting
I have decided to do the faculty meeting and Monday's Memo into One (less confusing). Each meeting will be an Academy or Activity with hopes to bring more cohesiveness and Professional Learning. I may call on you for the faculty meeting (be ready :). Also, because we give out lengthy notes each week, most notes from a traditional faculty meeting is done each week. I am just emphasizing some important items. We will ask for questions pertaining to the notes and then move on into our Activity or PL.
- New Board Protocols (see attachment at the end of the Memo)...To begin 2/3/20
- Lesson Plans will now be due on Fridays beginning 7/7/20.
- If anything has to be placed in the Monday's Memo, please email it to Mrs. Shuler by Thursday with the subject head, Monday Memo. Thanks
- Students will be out a lot for IGP Meetings and SCOIS. Please know that has to happen and please cooperate.
- AVID signs has to up by Wednesday.
- Educator's handbook should be utilized. Teachers should be contacting parents for minor infractions. Remember that we need to protect instructional time and give due process to each student.

To Do by 1:00
Chapter 3 of "The Power of a Positive Team" talks about the importance of goal-setting and having a purpose for setting a goal. Jon Gordon writes that "people with purpose drive goals." We would like to create a schoolwide display of our goals, either personal or professional, that you want to achieve by the end of the school year. Please try to summarize them into one or two words so that they can be compiled into a Wordle and displayed. Along with this, we are going to create a playlist that will motivate us to meet our goals.
Use the form attached to submit your goal and song to me by 1:00 on Monday, February 3 to Mrs. Carter
Weekly Reflections
Teacher Testimony- Mrs. Carter
As an awkward eighth grade student, I absolutely dreaded going downstairs to my Algebra I Honors class. What kind of math teacher dreads going to class? That’s unheard of, right?!? Wait for it...I ended up failing Algebra I and absolutely HATING math as an eighth-grader. That year, I had a teacher that showed me (looking back as a teacher) how much of a difference CARING about your students can make a difference.
Not every student is going to walk into your classroom & understand what you’re teaching the first time every single time. How we respond to that student makes all the difference in his or her outcome. What my eighth-grade math teacher, Mr. Lambert, did was this. He grouped our class according to ability, not unusual, but he let us know that we were grouped that way, arranged the classroom so that he gave all of his attention and effort to the “high” and “average” groups and left the “dumb” group to fend for ourselves in the back of the room. Now, fast-forward to the following school year. I retake Algebra I in ninth-grade with a totally different teacher, Mr. Hair, who took the time to show us that he CARED for us as students and actually WANTED us to SUCCEED. What do you think happened on Algebra I, take two? I ended up with a 99, passing it with flying colors, and now it is actually one of my very favorite units to teach.
I tell you all of this because we need to be our students’ biggest cheerleaders. Our positivity might be the only positive thing they hear all day long. When they see that we care about them and we want them to be successful, they are much more willing to take risks and put forth greater effort academically, personally, and socially. When students leave my class at the end of seventh grade, I want them to leave as genuinely kind and caring people that is going to have an impact in their world.
“Always be a little kinder than necessary.” - J.M. Barrie
