Second Week of School
Dear CDS Community,
We're off to great start in the 2019-20 school year! I'm so grateful for the positive atmosphere in our middle school. Many thanks to our outstanding students and teachers for all their enthusiasm and sincere desire to begin the year right!
I would like to thank parents once again for attending Back to School Night on Monday evening. We hope you found the event informative, and that you enjoyed visiting classrooms and getting to know your children's teachers. If you weren't able to make it, please be sure to review the presentation slides by visiting the CDS MS website, or by clicking on the button below. I also encourage you to email teachers directly if you'd like more information about the learning plan they've outlined for your children this year.
This week students have begun adapting to the new schedule. Comments about the changes have been generally positive, although some students feel a bit hungry in the late morning as lunch this year begins at 12:25 instead of 11:50 on most days. I hope their stomachs adjust soon!
Students had a wonderful time this week beginning CCs for the Fall season, and creating their flags and chants for Dalton Cup. Student Council elections also generated much excitement, and we're happy to celebrate this year's new student council leaders.
Have a great weekend!

Collective Uniform Order
We would like to recognize our CDS parents for their efforts to improve our PE uniform and also create some high quality winter gear for our community. CDS parents have also been working hard on a collective order for student uniforms.
If you are interested in ordering the CDS uniform consider taking advantage of the Collective Uniform Order by clicking on the button below from September 2nd to September 15th.
Following the collective order, the rate will go back to its regular pricing so make sure you act fast! Also, if you are interested in down jackets, you MUST order them before the 15th of September. They will not be available after that date.
Jackets will be on display in the 2nd floor Phoenix Cafe from September 2nd until the 6th, so stop by to take a look!
Once the order is placed the delivery is expected to be made on the 2nd of October. Thank you again to our fantastic parents for putting this together!
Note:
- Down jacket: It can be ONLY ordered during this Collective Uniform Period.
- Expected delivery date: From the 2nd week of October.
- Uniform and PE uniform will not be displayed, but you may check the photos on the ordering website.

Pioneering to Serve
Last school year as part of our annual Library Night, CDS Middle School students raised money to purchase textbooks for students at ASEC elementary school in Iloilo, Philippines. I had the opportunity to visit ASEC in June on the students' first days of school. While I was there, I distributed the books purchased with the donation from CDS to several 4th and 5th grade students. For many of them, this was the first time they had textbooks of their own. It was inspiring to see students take pride and ownership of their learning!

Goal Setting with Mrs. Hinds
I gave them the example of "positivity" because that is something I personally want to focus on in my life. All the students came up with their word and then created a mini-poster to hang on the wall to help remind them every time they come to class as to what they wanted to focus on for this school year. Seeing their goals on the wall every day even inspires me to do better and I hope it does the same for my students as well.
