The Academy of Country Music Awards
In the late 1950s and early 1960s Country Music was getting promoted all around the United States. With Nashville being a big origin spot, the genre was live and well along the East Coast. The East Coast had an awards ceremony to celebrate their beloved artists called The Country Music Awards. On the West Coast Country Music was also beginning to grow in popularity. To help this along the and also celebrate the artists accomplishments and their hit songs the Academy of Country Music Awards was created in 1966. The awards ceremony currently takes place and is televised from Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Garden Arena every April or May, recognizing artist's hits from the previous year. Each year a list of these popular hits and their categories are compiled, and the artists are awarded a hat trophy, with 2016 being no different as the celebration continues.
