Dear Parents & Guardians,
As a District we are always looking for ways to make sure we are meeting our student’s needs and helping them to grow and develop into the best version of themselves; now and in future years. Each school has had representatives working on how to best capture the needs of students across the system and to respond to these needs and areas of growth most effectively.
We wanted to give you information about an upcoming assessment (survey) that students across the District will be taking. It is called the Whole Child Needs Assessment; and it will be completed by in-person students only during a weekly advisory or homeroom session in the near future. This assessment will provide counselors and building leaders with specific information about individual students who may need support in one or more of the following areas: bullying, friendship skills, drug & alcohol use, vaping use, LGBTQ support, dating violence, getting along with peers and teachers, anxiety, depression, self-harm, working toward graduation, teen parenting and peer pressure. All of these topics are related to questions counselors would have engaged in with students one on one, if awareness of the concerns was present. This assessment allows schools to proactively identify the needs school wide and to respond more proactively.
In past years, we have taken a similar assessment called the Adams County Youth Initiative survey. This survey was anonymous. Thus, it was not possible to provide individual students with support based on the information collected. Following the administration of the Whole Child Needs Assessment, schools will be reaching out to individual students to assess how to provide the support at the level that best fits that student and their unique needs at the individual, group and whole school levels.
We have included the questions for you to view for the Whole Child Needs Assessment below:
Whole Child Needs Assessment - K-2 & 3-5th Grades
If you have any questions regarding the Whole Child Needs Assessment, please contact your student’s school counselor. Assessments will begin in September.
Thank you -

NEW Field
We are Reopening our Library!!
SEPTEMBER 6, 2022... Our Library Reopens! Our Brantner staff would like to welcome back Mrs. Maggie Poling. She is a dedicated volunteer who has worked tirelessly for our Brantner community for years. She is excited and ready to welcome all of our students into the new library, and we are so thankful to have her back!
If your student has any library books at home, please return as soon as possible. Any fees from previous years have been forgiven.
Meet Roadie
Dear Parents,
We want to share an opportunity that will be available to our students this year. Roadie, is a Boxer mix and will be working with students at Brantner as an Animal Assisted Therapy dog.
This means that Roadie has completed training and assessments certifying that he is an appropriate candidate to work with people and to help with concerns such as: anxiety, social skills, focusing issues, self-esteem, teamwork, hard to motivate students, students that have difficulty communicating and kids who are working through sadness and other challenges. This also means that Mrs. Kellie has attended training to learn techniques and strategies in order to work with Roadie as a team to help our students at Brantner.
What does this mean for Brantner?
Roadie will be:
Coming to school 1 to 2 days per week to work with students. He will only be at school on the days he will be working with students.
Working ONLY with individual students or groups of students that have specific parent or guardian permission to work with him.
Staying in Mrs. Kellie’s office when he is not working with students.
ONLY allowed near students who DO NOT have allergies or aversions to dogs.
This ALSO means:
Roadie MAY be in classrooms (depending on teacher consent and in accordance with parent wishes.
He will NOT wander freely on school grounds. He will be on a leash at all times.
The school policy HAS NOT changed about dogs being allowed on school grounds.
Parents MUST let Mrs. Kellie know if they are not comfortable with their student interacting with Roadie.
Mrs. Kellie welcomes any comments, questions, and concerns you may have. Also, please contact her as soon as possible if you DO NOT want your student to interact with the therapy dog in ANY setting due to allergy, aversion or for any other reason so that she can be sure to respect your wishes. Mrs. Kellie can be reached by phone at 720-685-5022 or email her at kturner@sd27j.net.
