At this point in the season, the Golden Bears are 3-3 after coming off of an impressive homecoming win against Cheltenham Friday night, 34-19. After tough back-to-back losses against league opponents Plymouth-Whitemarsh and Hatboro-Horsham, the Bears rebounded by getting contributions in all three phases of the game. Senior quarterback Casey Decker scored two rushing touchdowns, including an opening drive run of 48 yards. Bryan Mowery recovered a fumble on defense for a 28-yard score. Sterlen Barr capped off the Bears scoring with an impressive 83-yard kickoff return to open the second half.
Coach Beach and his staff are happy with how the Bears are playing of late and hope to carry the momentum of Friday night's win into the second half of the schedule. After using their upcoming bye week to get healthy, the Golden Bears play away at Quakertown on October 14th.

Highlights:
EVERY SINGLE GIRL has run her personal record time this year! The time improvements this year have been dramatic, with some girls dropping four minutes from their overall time. We also have a bigger squad of girls running this year than the team has had in several years. Other coaches and teams in the league have already mentioned that Upper Moreland girls look more competitive than they have in years. Additionally, our top three runners, Mary Thompson (sophomore), team captain Victoria Leister (junior), and Jillian Kelly (sophomore) are posting times that are competitive with the top girls in the league. We should have quite a competitive showing at league championships at Lehigh University on October 21.

George School Invitational: 12th / 18

Highlights:
The boys’ team is growing this year, with enough runners to fill a varsity race. Every runner has improved his time this year, with almost every boy running a personal record time! We have three boys this year on the team who can run sub nineteen minutes: Shane Coll (sophomore), Chris Stewart (sophomore), and captain Connor Hurst (junior). Newcomer Gustavo Paiz DeLeon (freshman) is rounding out a strong team, and this relatively young team has the potential to build a really strong program in the coming years! We are excited to see performances in the remaining meets of the season!Golf

Marching Band
The Upper Moreland Marching Unit (the "UMMU") is off to a great start this season with 111 students involved, the largest group we've had in over 20 years. They worked through the extreme heat for 2 1/2 weeks in August to learn their 2016 field show entitled, "The Hero Within". In late August, they began performing in the stands at football games to support our Golden Bears football team as they finished learning their field show.
The UMMU had their first competition of the season on Sept. 17 at he Upper Dublin Cavalcade of Bands contest and got off to a great start. They took 1st place in their division with a 78.35 and also received the highest overall score of all 10 bands that were at the event. The following week, the marching unit had an incredible performance at the Cavalcade of Bands show at Boyertown HS on Sept. 24. This was a very competitive show, which included several of the top bands in the entire Cavalcade circuit. The UMMU ending up taking 1st Place in their division with an 84.35, and the Best Overall Score award across the entire show as well. It was a huge success for the team. They finished decisively ahead of Spring Ford, North Penn, and Neshaminy - all perennial contenders for the state title. Noteworthy performances by Drum Majors Scotty Murphy and Cara Landers, along with flute soloist Lizzie Jones, received praise from judges and fans alike.
