INFORMATION FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES
Thanks so much to our families for the great daily attendance we had in the month of November. We averaged over 95% for 12/17 days in November.
For the month of December we are going to INCREASE the challenge by including "tardies" in our daily %. That means we need 95% or more of our students to be IN THE BUILDING by 7:40am! We often have students who arrive after the school day has started and we'd really like to see that improve.
The incentive will again be music in the hallways on the mornings following a 95% or better attendance and tardies report.

DECEMBER CHARACTER FOCUS - EMPATHY
Empathy is the ability to understand how someone else is feeling or to understand the situation they are in. It is the ability to “put yourself in someone else's shoes” and to understand the way a situation might make them feel.
READING CONNECTION - WRITING FOR A PURPOSE
- Let your youngster help you make a grocery list. He/She can refer to the advertising circular to spell what you need.
- Before you travel, have your child list items to pack.
- For a winter break trip to see the grandparents house, your child might write make a list of items to take or a list of questions to "interview" grandma and grandpa.
- Suggest that your child make a to-do list for the day: "Go to school. Feed the dog. Read a book."
- Work together to create a guest list for a holiday meal or a list of gifts you could make for relatives.
- Weave list writing into playtime. Have your child design a sign listing the flavors in a pretend ice cream shop or the services offered at her imaginary pet-sitting business.
- Encourage your child to illustrate the lists.
