Recommendations to Keep Students Safe Online
Plano ISD is sometimes made aware of concerns related to online safety for students. While we do not have reports of any specific threats made to Plano ISD students at this time, this communication is designed to provide you with information about how to have conversations with your children regarding potential online safety issues.
Tips for Parents:
· Ask general questions about whether your child has seen anything online that has made them upset or worried.
· Explain that many things that happen online can be misleading or frightening.
· Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult if they see something online or on social media that is scary or hurtful.
· Make sure your child knows that it is not okay to communicate with or follow directions from strangers online.
· Never reveal personal information, such as address, phone number, or school name/location.
· Spend time online together to teach your child appropriate online behavior.
· Keep the computer in a common area where you can watch and monitor its use and monitor time spent on smartphones or tablets.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s counselor. Plano ISD also offers a variety of parent education opportunities. For more information, please visit https://www.pisd.edu/parentworkshops

INFLUENZA and healthy tips
News From Huffman’s Nurse Mary:
With Seasonal Influenza still on the rise, please keep your child home when ill.
Parents and students can help reduce the impact of the cold and flu season by following these simple steps:
- Get a flu shot
- Keep your children at home for fever of 100 degrees or more for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds or more. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand rub/gel.
- Cough and/or sneeze into a tissue or your upper sleeve, not into your hand.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Attendance Reminders
When children are at school on time, they are better prepared to learn. We appreciate you having your child at school no later than 7:45 a.m. each day. The building door (cafeteria side) opens as early as 7:00 a.m. Be mindful that excellent attendance positively affects student learning and is also an important factor in measuring school performance ratings each year. Please know that your ongoing partnership and participation contributes to the overall success of your child and our school.
7:00 a.m. - Cafeteria doors open and breakfast begins
7:30 a.m. - Grab and Go breakfast
7:40 - Huffman Hello
7:45 - Tardy bell rings and learning begins
It is vital for students to be in school. Please remember these STATE GUIDELINES:
