Christmas is Coming To Holy Child
Dear Holy Child Family,
Where there is grit, there is beauty to be found. I just read this quote in a magazine and it made me think of our community. In light of that, I wanted to share a story. In the midst of a very busy day, I was told that the statue of Jesus in front of the Church was "missing." It felt like the last straw. Nevertheless, I began to search, like a detective, to find out if someone had "taken" Jesus, or broken Him, or what on earth happened. In the fog of interviewing teachers, students and parish staff, a story began to unfold and take on dimensions that became more mysterious with each telling. Perhaps the best part was the dramatic retelling of AJ, our faithful custodian, as the one who "carried Jesus away to safety" because He had fallen off of the pedestal. Now the story really began to take hold of my imagination and I felt more determined than ever to "find Jesus." (He actually ended up in the parish entryway.) Well, in the middle of this, Father's office had a leak and all his furniture had been moved out and there was a gaping hole, so to speak, in his office. It seemed unreal. So there I was, in the parish, trying to deal with cloudy water, no internet, no phone lines and endless mud. And then, all of a sudden, I found my answer: There was Jesus. He was in the middle of the parish entrance, amidst unmatched chairs, mud and endless problems. All the headaches and disorder faded as I saw His Sacred Heart glowing and He seemed to be saying I am here in the middle of all this mess and sometimes the only way you will find me anew is when everything gets turned upside down. Happily, at that moment, I was told that the statue was not broken and He was eventually brought back to His normal place! Perhaps I will never uncover the mystery of how our statue of Jesus fell off the pedestal that fateful day in December, but I was left with the peace that He is right where He is supposed to be and He is waiting for us to accept His invitation to enter into His Sacred Heart, no matter what the external circumstances are. That is my greatest desire for myself and for all of you this Christmas Season as we continue our adventure with our construction project. May the heart of the Holy Child be your rest and consolation.
With Much Love,
Mrs. Martinez
Mozart and the Great Mass
Mrs. Hamrick came to me, so excited, to tell me that the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus is bringing Mozart and the Great Mass to Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Nob Hill on Sunday March 8 at 3 PM. This Mass in C Minor is in Latin and contains the prayers that the Upper School students have been learning. Because this is such a rare opportunity for the students to experience something so beautiful, Mrs. Hamrick and I will pay for the tickets for the Upper School students who are interested in going. It is the Sunday before Spring Break begins. Look at your calendar and think about it and we can make plans in the new year. She and I can help with transportation if an adult is not available. Perhaps I could get some parent volunteers to help with driving as well. It will not be a "field trip" per se because it is on a Sunday, but would be more of a family event with the school. We would need a final count at some point to pre-order the tickets. We can't wait!
Our Christmas Wreath Fundraiser
Who could resist this salesman?
Thanks Miss Lety!
Selling wreaths can make you hungry....
What a trooper!
Dickens and Shakespeare
In the new year, Mrs. Muzzy and Mrs. Strang will be helping the school launch an edited version of Shakespeare's The Tempest for the older students. Stay tuned for information about auditions and practices.
Goodbye and Hello
We are very happy to announce that Liam Fogarty, another graduate from Holy Child, will be our new aftercare provider. Liam is a freshman in college and a fine, upstanding young man and we are so happy to welcome him aboard!
