Scholastic Book Fair ~ October 22-26
Students will have time to shop before school, at recess, and during their scheduled library time.
The book fair is a great way to help our school earn more books for the classrooms and library,
and it’s also a fun, great way to get kids excited about reading. Our fair can’t be successful
without volunteers! If you’d like to help, please sign up via myvolunteerpage.com in the coming
days. Thanks in advance!
OBOB ~ Oregon Battle of the Books
At Montclair we are excited to start the OBOB season -
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
In October, during class library time -- 3rd, 4th and 5th students will learn about this years OBOB and decide if they would like to participate in this fun, challenging, exciting, hard, sometimes stressful, rewarding activity.

Hello Families!
Happy October! It is my favorite month...bring on the pumpkin everything!
This month in counseling students will be learning about the zones of regulation. With this tool students are able to identify different emotions and put them into colored categories. You can use this tool at home too, below is a visual for you. Once we’ve mastered the zones and identifying our emotions, we’ll be able to create strategies to cope with the different emotions.
Attention 5th grade families: Your students will be learning about the different Middle School Options this month. I will be giving them each a flyer on all the open houses to visit in order to get an idea of how each school works. Applications are online and will be available starting October 15, 2018 and will be accepted until 4:00pm on December 7, 2018.
Parenting Resource:
Whitford Middle School is hosting a parenting series intended for parents of 10-14 year olds. It's free and includes dinner and childcare.
