From the Principal...
Happy Monday!
STAAR Testing is underway! Our third and fourth graders are diligently working on Math today and Reading tomorrow with make-ups scheduled the remainder of the week. We thank you in advance for helping us ensure a quiet campus during this week.
We want to again thank our amazing PTO for their amazing treatment of our staff during teacher appreciation week! Thank you parents for spoiling all of us! We are so blessed to have such supportive families!
We are still pushing our Pavers for Playgrounds and have reached 74 bricks sold! We are trying to reach our goal of 250 to complete not only the playgrounds, but the paver pathway outside the biker-walker door.
It is so hard to believe we are down to 12 days of school! Please pay close attention to information in the Buzz, emailed notifications, as well as teacher communication as there is a lot going on in these remaining days.
Thank you for all you do and have a great week,
Mrs. Price

Paper Back Book Exchange
The 9th annual Paperback Book Exchange is coming May 29th! Are your children’s bookshelves overflowing with books? Would you like for them to have some free new titles? Promote summer reading by giving students new titles to read. Here’s how it works: 1. Students can bring up to 25 used (but in good condition) paperback books to the Buckalew Library Monday, May 21-Friday, May 25th during their regular library time or before school. Please do not send hardback books, adult books, board books, activity books, mini-books, such as those given away at Chick-fil-a, or books that are not suited for grades K-6. These items will not count towards a student’s book bucks. We especially appreciate books for our soon to be 5th grade students. *A note of caution: Students should be sure to get parental permission to bring books. I don’t want any family favorites or books with sentimental attachments to leave home. 2. Students will receive BOOK BUCKS for each book depending upon the number of pages. For books with: Value Up to 50 pages 1 book buck 51-100 pages 2 book bucks 101-150 pages 3 book bucks 151-200 pages 4 book bucks 201+ pages 5 book bucks 3. The books will be sorted and organized in the library according to value, using the same Book Buck value shown above. 4. On Tueday, May 29h students with BOOK BUCKS will be allowed to shop. Classes will have an assigned time during the day. There will be no shopping before school or individually as is usually done during book fairs. Ideally, there will be no books left over at the end of the sale. We need volunteers to help count books, distribute book bucks, sort books, help students find books and ‘check out’ with their book bucks, and clean up. Check the Buzz or contact Mrs. West (jgwest@conroeisd.net) or Lisa Nowiczewski (lisa.nowiczewski@gmail.com) for the link to sign up. Thanks so much!
HELP US PAVE THE WAY FOR A NEW PLAYGROUND!
Leave a legacy commemorating Buckalew's 20th anniversary! Adopt a customized brick in Buckalew's schoolyard, and show your Buckalew Bear spirit! Your legacy brick will bring smiles to children for many years by funding new playground equipment and essential enrichment programs. The permanent installment will be outside the biker/walker door, replacing gravel with a safety and cleaner school path. Visit your brick anytime for years to come! Whether you have a current Buckalew Bear or a Buckalew graduate, this would make a perfect gift. You will always be a part of our Buckalew family!

Kindness Rocks!!!!
Buckalew Bears have been hard at work painting rocks this year to decorate the front of our campus! It has been a great collaborative effort between the Garden Club mothers, the Art Department, and every student on campus!!
Starting May 4th, we will begin adding our school of rock fish to the front garden! Each rock fish is unique, just like us and many have words of wisdom to share with future generations on the bottom. I am so excited to see the efforts of your hard work pay off in our first school wide art collaboration!!
-Mrs. Doak
STAAR TESTING DATES and VISITATION/VOLUNTEERS
STAAR TESTING for our students is very important! In order to ensure security and minimize distractions during the testing, visitors and volunteers will not be allowed on campus during our STAAR testing week(s). Please make sure to plan accordingly as this includes no visitation during lunch time. If your child has a birthday on these dates, please choose an alternate date and arrange any plan with the teacher. We will have altered lunch and specials schedules on the following days and all areas and offices, including the bistro will be used as testing areas. Please minimize any changes to dismissal and/or lunches during this time.
Our campus will be closed to all visitors and alternate arrangements should be made during the following dates:
- · The Week of May 14 - 18: 3rd AND 4th Graders will be taking STAAR Math/Reading May 14th and 15th with the possibility of makeups throughout the week.
If you have a 3rd or 4th Grader, please make sure these dates are on your calendar and that you have them in attendance with plenty of rest and a nutritious breakfast each day.
Thank you for your understanding!
