Media Committee Meeting
Agenda and Action 12/4/14
Tech Boat and Ebooks
Our 'Tech Boat' is ready to set sail! Students and teachers will be able to use the ipad minis in the Media Center and can display presentations on our flat screen monitors!
I will be trying some activities with some of the Specials classes and the Tech Boat will be available for teacher sign-up by calendar in January!
I will be purchasing some Ebooks for checkout-Ebooks can be accessed on computer, Kindle, Nook, Apple, and Droid devices. More info coming soon!
Book Talks and Teacher Book Picks
If you tuned into SeaNN this morning, you noticed that we had some students giving a Book Talk on the book Officer Buckle and Gloria. This is a segment that we want to continue weekly, and we will be looking for volunteers (students AND teachers) to come on and share their Book Talk on the announcements. (Sign Up in Media Center)
The Media Committee all agreed that this will be a great way to spread the 'Love of Literacy'!
In addition to the Book Talks, we would like to have teachers recommend their favorite books to the students.
Be thinking about your faves: 2 picture books, 2 juvenile chapter books, and 1 current (appropriate :) ) read.
One of my favorites: The Thingumajig Book of Manners
Teachers will have a Ticket Out the Door at an upcoming Faculty or Professional Learning meeting so that we can have this info to share with the kids.
Mr. Counter has offered to put together a slideshow that will showcase Teacher Picks-thanks, Colby!
I also want to have teachers record themselves reading a favorite picture book and then we will print out a QR code to go on the back of the book in the Media Center. How fun for the kids to be able to read along with a teacher when they check out the book!?
I'm starting the process of meeting with artists about painting a mural in our Media Center! I met with Shane from Airborne Art, and he showed me some airbrush options for an aquatic scene. See pics below and let me know what you think!
What Are We Doing Next?
Ask teachers to be thinking of their fave book picks and volunteering to do Book Talks on SeaNN!
Brainstorm ideas for Literacy Night and Tech Boat Lessons!
We'll meet again at the end of January share ideas!
