-US passes Patriot Act after 9/11
-US gives law enforcement powers to bring terrorists to justice
-facilitates information sharing and cooperation among government agencies so they can better connect information
-law enforcement officials can obtain a search warrant anywhere terrorist-related activity has occured

-allows federal agents to track terrorists
-allows law enforcement to conduct investigations
-allows federal agents to ask a court for for an order to obtain business records in national security terrorism cases
What is the purpose?
-increases the penalties for those who have committed terrorist crimes
-prohibits harboring of terrorists
-punishes terrorist attacks on mass transit systems
