Message from the Principal

Black Bear Families,

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out to our Back-to-School Night last evening! I heard it went really well and we had a great turnout. My apologies for missing our event; I’m looking forward to more opportunities in the future to see everyone.

Next week is shaping up to be an exciting week for Tualatin Elementary! In fact, two big events are happening on the same day.

October 5th starts off with our Walk + Roll to School Day! This special day is to encourage our families to walk, bike, roll, or bus to school to stay healthy and active. Please consider participating.

Also on October 5th, our school will be featured on the KOIN 6 News as part of a “Farm-to-School” showcase celebrating the benefits of locally produced lunches. KOIN will be filming Aggi creating our lunches which include sandwiches, 100% local hamburgers, and blueberry yogurt parfaits. During the lunch period we have asked a few students to participate as food samplers and will share their thoughts about the new menu items.

Wishing you and your families all the best as we move into October!

Working with you for our kids,

Jim

Back-to-School Night was a rousing success. Thanks to all the families who joined us for the evening. It was good to have you back in our school!

Walk+Roll to School Day

Help your students start the day off with some fresh air and activity by walking or biking (or roller skating/blading or scootering!) to school with them on Wed, Oct 5th on Walk+Roll to School day! The TTSD school with the most bikers, walkers or bus riders can win the Golden Sneaker Trophy! Show your school spirit by walking or rolling to school with your friends and families. Students who walk, bike, or bus will receive a fun goody bag!

Thanks so the city of Tigard for the Bike Rodeo and Safety Fair held at Tualatin Elementary last week. We hope to see you back on your bikes for Walk+Roll to School day!

Farm-to-School Lunches!

TTSD Nutrition Services Department is excited to be partnering with local farmers and vendors to provide new fresh and nutritious food options for students this school year. (And as always, Aggi will continue to source food from our school sustainable garden.)

Some of the new options include:

  • Classic Oregon Kids Sammie - Hazelnut macadamia butter and marionberry jam on whole wheat bread featuring: Laurel Foods and Oregon Growers
  • 100% Local Hamburger - Pasture-raised, no hormone, no antibiotic, grass-fed beef. Featuring: Painted Hills Natural Beef
  • Blueberry Yogurt Parfait - Pacific Northwest blueberries with local honey yogurt and granola featuring: Nancy's Yogurt and PNW Blueberries

PTA Restaurant Night Fundraiser

Thursday, October 6th, is the PTA's first Restaurant Night fundraiser at the Tualatin Papa Murphy's. The PTA will receive 25% of net sales on all orders that day when families mention that they are supporting Tualatin Elementary School.

You can call-in an order or order at the Tualatin store, but we recommend ordering online. Don't forget to type DONATE in the promo code box, so the school will get credit. Order anytime on October 6th, and stock up on your favorite pizzas. They freeze wonderfully!

Now Hiring! TEAF Coordinator!

We are hiring a TEAF Coordinator to run the program for the 2022-2023 school year and into the future!

Big picture

Art in the Burbs is back!

Join us on October 22-23 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. for Art in the Burbs. We'll be back at Tigard High School this year (9000 SW Durham Rd, Tigard) with local artisans, food trucks, and incredible raffle baskets! Suggested donation for entry is $2 and you'll be issued a free raffle ticket for that donation!

This popular art show, hosted by the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools, is a fun way to get a head start on gift buying AND raise important dollars for the arts programs in each of our schools. Twenty percent of all sales benefit the Art in the Burbs grants!

Fall Sports Fan Guidance

Dear Tualatin Elementary parents/guardians,

We are excited about the great start to our fall 2022 season! As we kick-off our fall sports season and our school communities come together in support of our high school teams, we are writing today to share some important reminders regarding the participation at events. We ask that our home and visiting fans adhere to the following guidelines when attending games:

  • With a dedication to the safety of our students and guests, all elementary and middle school students attending our high school games must be accompanied by an adult.

  • There will be designated locations at the high schools for students to be during games that include being in the main stadium seats or other identified areas. Students who are wandering and socializing in other areas will be asked to return to their seats.

  • No backpacks, outside food/drinks, sports balls, skateboards/bikes/motorized scooters.

  • No re-entry.

  • And finally, we ask everyone to be respectful. This includes being respectful of our school grounds, facilities, staff, referees and guests as well as demonstrating respectful language, good sportsmanship and respecting the direction given by our staff at these events.

We appreciate your support and help in sharing these expectations with your student(s).

Let’s work together to show our community how much pride we all have in our district and our schools, and how wonderful it is for us all to come together respectfully in support of our students.

Thank you!
