Friday, November 19, 2021 - NO SCHOOL November 24-26

From the Desk of Mr. Backmeyer...

Happy Friday! We will see you in school next Monday and Tuesday, but there will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 24 - Friday, November 26, due to Thanksgiving Break! We look forward to seeing everyone back here on Monday, November 29th.

THANKSGIVING brings about opportunities for reflection...and I am grateful for this! Do I always stop to take a moment and be grateful or thankful? Not as often as I should! I typed in "thanksgiving quotes" into Google, as I prepared this Southside News this week and these two resonated with me:

  • “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” — Oprah Winfrey
  • “Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” — William Arthur Ward

I also found this one that made me laugh out loud! I have to share!

  • “Thanksgiving, man… not a good day to be my pants.” — Kevin James

THANK YOU! I am grateful for our Southside families, our staff, and our students! It really is amazing what WE do for and with our Mustangs over the years we have them! The relationships and the efforts do make a difference! I am so proud and thankful to be your student(s) principal! Coming here each day is a blessing! May your Thanksgiving be filled with many blessings!

This place...Southside! Have you ever wondered what an average day looks like at Southside? Well, we have compiled this...Southside Snapshot Shows A Day In The Life of Elementary Students (click here or see the link below). We are so proud of our Mustangs and the work we do here on a daily basis!

You will find a lot of new information below...take a look! NO SOUTHSIDE NEWS NEXT WEEK...Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Own Southside Family Support Specialist

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Centerstone. Southside and Centerstone are partnering to help serve our students with an advanced, comprehensive, approach to counseling. Centerstone works with BCSC schools collaboratively by providing school-based services to improve the behavioral health and well-being of students. Two Centerstone mental health clinicians, located at Southside, provide support to youth struggling with academic studies due to mental health and behavioral issues. Mrs. Leslie Cain and Mr. Theo Cook are our Southside Family Support Specialists. They can be accessed quickly and will build a plan of care around the unique strengths, needs, and preferences of the child and the family. Services are offered at the school and can also be extended to the home, community, and/or the local Centerstone office.

Some common developmental skills which can be developed in our work with students include:
