Optimist Communication Contest for the DHH

Big picture

Thanks to the Optimist Club of Weatherford!

The Weatherford Optimist Club approached the Brazos River Regional Day School Program for the Deaf four years ago to let us know they would like to sponsor us in the Optimist International Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Since that time, they have supported our efforts and we have had two $2500 scholarship winners!! We are very hopeful that we will have another scholarship winner at the North District Competition on May 3rd, 2019. Special Thanks to Debbie Braudaway, Mary Lou Curry, and Pat Cook! Thank you for all the wonderful things you do for the BRRDSPD students, Optimists!!!!

Amazing, Inspiring Speaker, Scott Daily!!!

Scott Daily is a Deaf Patrol Sergeant with the Erath County Sheriff's Department. This very impressive professional shared about his life as a Deaf man who gives back to society daily. He had practical, hands-on information to share with the students who were totally engaged in his presentation!! Thank you very much to our outstanding speaker!

Scott Daily is pictured here with the event's MC, Jodi Oesterle who was also the 2018 $2500 scholarship winner!

Very Special Thank You to Our Judges and Time Keeper

Terri Gonzalez, Texas Christian University, Deaf Education Program

Sammie Sheppard, Tarrant County College, Sign Language Interpreting Program

Carolyn Stewart, Azle ISD, Itinerant Deaf Ed Teacher

Janet Law, Retired BRRDSPD Itinerant Deaf Ed Teacher

These most impressive judges and time keeper gave up their day in order to support the efforts of the Brazos River and the Optimist Communication Contest for the DHH. This is not an easy competition to judge, but once again they were able to pick out the top winners!! We couldn't have a contest without them. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Special Thank You to Brazos River Team!!

The teachers and staff of the Brazos River RDSPD team worked hard once again to help prepare their students for this educational event! Over 50 students participated in this event and 11 competed in the oratorical contest. In addition to their many other duties, the team worked hard to help give the kids the information and the confidence to be presenters in this amazing contest. Coordinating transportation for all these kids coming from numerous places is a feat alone. A special thank you to Kristal Bullock, Program Assistant to the Brazos River RDSPD! We thank you for working out all the details (including coordinating lunch) and once again making this an awesome day for our kids!
