Educational Tour of Peru: Land of the Inca

There will be an Informational Parent Meeting on Monday, January 27th, at 6:30 in the Little Theater at PCIS for those interested in traveling to Peru in April 2021. This trip is open to all students attending PNHS or PSHS during the 2020-2021 school year. There will be many fundraising and scholarship opportunities. Sticker Shock Campaign Submissions

Our Sticker Shock Campaign is a collaboration between youth, law enforcement, liquor store owners and coalition members that aims to reduce underage drinking by limiting minors’ access to alcohol.

Biomedical Applications Now Available

The Biomedical Program is an outstanding opportunity for high school students in Plymouth. It is a 4-year pathway that includes one course each year for four years. Students in this pathway take the following courses: Grade 9 - Principles of Biomedical Science, Grade 10 - Human Body Systems, Grade 11 - Medical Interventions, and Grade 12 - Biomedical Innovations.

The program connects students to courses and experiences that promote career exploration and readiness. Biomedical Science Staff work collaboratively to create an instructional program that is rooted in project based learning and that which fosters partnerships with professionals that expand on the opportunities for Plymouth students.

In order to be considered for acceptance into this program, interested students must complete an online application (bit.ly/biomedapp). Applications are due on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Register Today for Camp Invention

Camp Invention is a nationally acclaimed summer program where STEM concepts come to life. Led by local teachers, this program has tapped into kids' natural curiosity, giving them the opportunity to become innovators through teamwork and immersive, hands-on creative problem-solving.

Our 2020 program, Elevate, sparks excitement and inspiration as children engage in hands-on challenges, discover world-changing inventors, and build their confidence as creators and innovators. Program elements include the Flight Lab, Design Thinking Project, Rescue Squad, and Camp Invention Champions.

This year's program is at PCIS from July 6-10, 2020, and runs daily from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. We anticipate that this program will sell out, so register your child today! Openings are available for students entering grades K-6. Also, additional opportunities are available for students entering grades 7-9. Band Concert

IBES students were treated to a band concert from the middle school before vacation. It was awesome!

Library Information Technology Update from NMES

Students have been immersed in exciting literacy and STEAM activities here at the NMES Learning Commons. Students are discovering the engineering design process through explorations into aquaponics and space farming. Students are looking at how people can conserve resources and use recycled materials while limiting the impact of food transportation on our environment. We have constructed a soilless garden using recycled materials and 3D printed parts to grow herbs for our cafeteria here at school. This project also links to our investigations into the NASA Artemis mission to the Moon and Mars. Students are putting our reduce, reuse, recycle motto into practice!

NMES students are also participating in the Voyages partnership with Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Students are able to follow the M.M.A. Cadets’ semester at sea. Follow The Voyage – Share The Experience curriculum is linked to the Common Core Mathematics Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. PCIS Students and Staff Take 2020 By Storm!

PCIS Students and Staff came back from the break ready to take on 2020! The PCIS Girls Basketball Team opened their season with a win, the cast and crew of Aladdin Jr. continue to work hard for their upcoming production at the end of January and PCIS students attended the first meeting for the new PCIS newspaper.

Meanwhile, the PCIS Staff is participating in the January Bingo Challenge! Staff members can obtain bingo by completing any 5 challenges in a row. Some of the most popular challenges so far are: packed a healthy lunch, shared a successful activity or lesson with a colleague and exercised 3 times in a week.

Exploring the Design Process

7th-grade Tech Ed students got a taste of the design process when they devised adaptive equipment for those with handicaps. After identifying a problem, students researched the issue, designed a device, built a prototype, tested the device, evaluated, and made any necessary changes. When finished, the device was printed using a 3-D printer. The adaptive devices, designed mainly for those with hand tremors, included a large pencil grip to improve writing, a steering wheel grip, a device to help insert plugs into a wall socket, an assistive drinking funnel, and a holder for multiple plastic grocery bags.

I Hereby Resolve....

It's that time of year when resolutions are made and sometimes broken. That's no different in middle school. 8th-grade art students practiced lettering when they wrote out their resolutions, which ranged from getting better grades to visiting Nana more often. 8th-grade gym students hit the exercise machines like so many others do in January. Let's hope that their resolutions last well into the new year!

Captain's Breakfast

An excellent message was delivered by 2017 PN graduate Jacob Burkhead to our North and South winter captains, “Don’t wait for change to happen, make it happen yourself.” Jake is a junior football player at UMASS Dartmouth and already a two time Scholastic All American.
