A Message From Dr. Sener
Dear FSA Students and Parents,
Today at FSA we celebrated World Kindness Day. Students and faculty were invited to wear blue to show they stand for kindness, but I believe that our school and community shows this every day. We used to say that we were a small school with a big heart, and in many ways this is still true, but year after year our community has continued to grow. Growth comes from acceptance and kindness and vice versa. Here at FSA I see on a daily basis that we value all of our relationships and I believe that we truly are one big family. We pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusion and we are always trying to be a welcoming home for anyone who needs or wants to be a part of this family. Let's not think about being kind just on World Kindness day, but for every minute of every day of the year.
HAPPY DIWALI
This weekend members of the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths will celebrate Diwali or Deepavali, the Festival of Lights. Deepavali is a Sanskrit word that translates to mean “a row of lights." It will be celebrated globally on Saturday, November 14th. The triumph of good over evil or darkness over the light will be celebrated with the lighting of decorative deeyas/candles, fireworks, an array of delicious foods - especially sweets, and even some exchange gifts. In some parts of the world, it will be celebrated for five days with various ceremonies and prayers. So wherever in the world, you hail from; South Asia, Africa, Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, Happy Diwali to you and your family!
A Message From Your Counselors
Hello HS Students and Families!
We would like to celebrate Mickey Mouse's Birthday next week!
Mickey Mouse Day 2020: Mickey Mouse first appeared publicly in the short film "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928, the day fans officially recognize as Mickey Mouse's Birthday. Mickey reminds us of the magic of childhood - a time when dreams had wings, and our imagination made everything possible.
Next Wednesday, November 18th, we will celebrate Mickey Mouse and the imagination he reminds us of. Our students are welcome to wear their favorite Mickey Mouse/Disney article of clothing OR red if you do not have anything Disney related to school. (Jeans are also allowed!)
We hope you never lose sight of Walt Disney's belief of "If you can dream it, you can do it."
next week is career week- each day during college prep we will have a speaker based on the survey data you provided on your interests
Thank you to Adrienne Langford <alangford@gsfc.org> from the Georgia Student Finance Commission for hosting this event for us! We know that our families found this to be helpful in understanding FAFSA.

Two Science Olympians post stellar performances!
FSA’s Reach for the Stars students Nick A. and Gann D. placed second and third, respectively, in the October Science Olympiad My SO Showdown. This nationwide test is available to all middle school students, whether or not they participate on a Science Olympiad team. Students prepare for the 55 question online test using materials and webinars offered by Science Olympiad. Nick and Gann spent the month studying the properties and evolution of stars and galaxies including deep sky objects. In addition, these topics align with the Science Olympiad Reach for Stars event which Nick and Gann have been studying for the past two years under coach Pam Walsh.
“For FSA to have two students place in the top five nationally is really remarkable,” said Mrs. Walsh. “It’s no surprise that they’ve placed first in Reach for the Stars in both of our Science Olympiad tournaments this year. It really makes me regret that the National Tournament was cancelled last year. I would have loved to see how they would have placed among that field,” she said.
Early Action Updates from Georgia Tech
While it’s been relatively quiet on Georgia Tech's campus this fall, our office has been busy hosting virtual programming for prospective students. At this point, we have hosted nearly 300 programs and reached over 11,000 people.
A few additional updates:
- Our Early Action 1 first-year application deadline for Georgia students was October 15. We will release EA1 admission decisions December 4.
- Our Early Action 2 deadline for non-Georgia students was November 2. We plan to release those admission decisions in mid-January.
- On October 30, we released admission decisions for the spring transfer class. Our enrollment goal is 300+ transfer students. See below for an overview of this outstanding class.
Thank you for continuing to help us Create the Next class of Yellow Jackets! Please email us if you have questions.

How Does Aftercare Work for High School Students?
High School Families,
We would like to openly tell you that when more students stay for after school care, it will be harder for us to protect the safety of after school care students during the pandemic. Therefore, If your child is not staying for After-School Clubs or Tutoring, we strongly ask you to pick up your child between 3:16 pm and 3:40 pm.
If your child stays for After-School Clubs or Tutoring, please pick-up your child between 4:00 pm - 4:10 pm.
After school care begins at 4:10 pm and continues until 5:30 pm.
For those students who regularly use after school care, we recommend the monthly payment plan to save money. After school care fee is $20 per day for the monthly payment plan. If you are not interested in a monthly registration, you will indicate this on the form sent in your email. You will be charged $30 per day as you use after school care. After 5:30, the fee increases to $40, and $1 is added for each minute after 6:00. If a student is not taken by 7:00 pm, we will inform the local safety authorities for the safety of the student.
If your child will be joining after school care, you will follow the drive to pass the front of the school and park your car at the far end of the building. After parking your car, you will enter through the courtyard entrance. You will not come inside the school building. Please enter the courtyard, and knock on the door "L25" for Middle School and "HS Hangout" for High School students. The images below will help you to see where to park, enter the courtyard, and pick up your child. Please make sure to have your carpool card with you. Please make sure to be wearing a mask, and please maintain social distancing while traveling up the stairs to get your child. Once you have picked up your child, please exit from the same courtyard entrance.
Please note: families are not permitted to gather and remain in the courtyard area after picking up their children.
