Greetings Woodcrest Families,
We are excited to welcome students back to the Woodcrest building January 21. We spent time today as staff and teams preparing for this transition. We focused our time on preparing for the learning and health and safety that must be in place when we return to the building. Thank you, families, for your support of this planning time to make this a smooth transition.
As we prepare for January 21, we are working through requests from families to change learning models and the impacts to teachers, classrooms and students. The family requests to change learning model will impact both at-school and online learning. As I have reviewed the requests, I believe there will be little impact on the student learning experience.
The work that we are engaged in today will continue next week. As a reminder, there will be no school Monday, January 18 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and no school on Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20 for grades K-6 as we use these days to prepare for the transition.
As we continue to live through the impacts this pandemic has had on our lives and learning, the events at the U.S. Capitol last week and continued division in our country also have shaken us. Our teachers have provided space and time to process together. Our purpose in having these conversations is to emphasize that regardless of what we each believe, how we treat each other matters. At Woodcrest, we work hard to treat each other with respect and kindness and create an environment where each student feels valued and belongs. We are working to prepare our children for life in a diverse society – where we can disagree without disrespecting or hurting each other.
Again, I cannot over emphasize the excitement I have for returning to learning here at Woodcrest. Please, if you have any questions about this transition, I ask that you reach out to me. Thank you for your continued partnership, and I look forward to hearing from and working with you as this year continues.
With thanks,
John Franke
