1F Weekly News
September 6th - September 10th
A Note From Ms. D
Thank you to all those who were able to attend our Back to School Night. If you were not able to attend, I will send home an information packet with your child on Sunday that goes over most of the main points of our presentation. One major point from the evening is the change in gate 5 dismissal that will begin next week. Please see the special announcement from the office below or check your child's green folder for more detail. Also, we will not start sending home homework until after the Eid holiday.
RazKids and NVS login information have been sent home with your child in their green folders today. Participation in RAZkids is optional, but it is a great resource for reading practice. Please know that some of the current RAZKids reading levels are based on last year's data. Students will also have access to levels above and below the level I have assigned so that they can choose books that feel just right for them and fit their interests. We have not talked about RAZKids in class yet, so If your family decides to use it over the weekend, please log in with your child to help them get the hang of things.
Heads Up: Next week our class has been chosen as one of two first grade classes to pilot a new assessment. We will be taking a computerized adaptive test called MAP throughout the week. ASD currently uses MAP for grades 2-5 and is now ready to pilot a grade 1 assessment that will hopefully provide useful data to help us tailor programs to each student's needs in Literacy and Math. Please be sure that your child gets plenty of rest during the week =)
Currently students are able to check out two books from the library at a time. The librarian is working with students to find books that fit their reading level and interests. They can bring books back and check out new ones at any point in the week before school or during recess. (they do not have to wait for library day).
The blog will soon be updated with notes, pictures, and videos from the week, feel free to check it out if you have time! If you're having trouble accessing the blog for the first time, please make sure you're trying to access it from a computer (not a mobile device), and if other issues arise I can put you in touch with our technical support to assist further.
REMINDER: PICTURE DAY IS SUNDAY =)
UNIT LETTERS ARE ALSO ATTACHED TO THIS EMAIL FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CURRICULUM
Sincerely,
Ms. D
SPECIAL EVENTS AND SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
A note from the office - Dismissal Location Change
The Lower and Upper Elementary Divisions will be implementing a new location for student dismissal starting on Sunday, September 13th.
Pre-Kindergarten
Our pre-k students will continue to dismiss as usual at the picnic tables at gate 5.
Kindergarten to Grade 5
Students will have designated areas in the elementary cafeteria. There will be signs posted as to where each grade level’s gathering areas will be.
We ask that all parents walk around the Lower Elementary building to access the cafeteria rather than through the hallways. The gates for parents will open at 2:45 pm and the cafeteria will provide a cooler place for you to wait. Occasionally, we do hold events for students in the cafeteria at the end of the day. If this is the case we would kindly request that you use the shaded area at the blue basketball courts to wait until 3pmdismissal.
Please note that all ASA’s will continue to dismiss at gate 5.

Parent & Counselors Coffee Afternoon
Transitions happen every day in your child’s world. Starting a new school or grade level, moving to a new house or saying goodbye to a friend are all examples of transitions that can cause your child angst.
Join the Elementary School Counselors Monday September 14th at 1:45pm - 3:00pm in the Elementary Cafeteria as we explore ways to help children transition more smoothly.
