Fulton Flier

Week of May 17th

Dear Fulton Families,

We had a fun week with our Countdown to the End of the Year and ended the week with the letter V with Vacation Day! Many of our staff decided to take their vacation to some place warm such as the beach, Hawaii or the Galapagos Islands! Check out some of pictures of our staff engaged in teaching while adorned with vacation inspired attire.

Encourage your student to check out this week's Countdown Festivities!

On Wednesday of last week, Governor Larry Hogan announced new state orders, effective this past Saturday, May 15, 2021, to ease outdoor masking requirements and expand allowable attendance at outdoor venues. To support and align with these efforts, Dr. Martirano shared on Friday that HCPSS will no longer require masks to be worn outdoors while on school property, other than at athletic contests. This includes outdoor recess, eating school meals outdoors, physical education classes, and other times when students, staff and/or visitors are outside on school grounds. Masks may still be worn based on individual discretion, and social distancing during these times continues to be strongly encouraged to the extent possible. Masks will also continue to be required inside schools based on the State’s orders.

As such, beginning today, Monday May 17th, we will no longer require students to wear a mask during recess or during outdoor PE classes. If your child is attending school in-person, we are encouraging you to have a conversation with your child about recess & outdoor PE class. Please share with your child whether you would prefer that he or she wears a mask. Consider sending your child in with a lanyard or something to help them to easily take their mask off/on when moving from inside to outside so they will not lose it.

Also, staff are no longer required to wear a mask while outdoors on school property. All staff are encouraged to remain socially distanced when possible.

From the Psych Corner...

Pay Attention to Joy

It can be hard to notice good things when there is stress. It is also common to feel guilty about things that are going well, when we know things for others may be going through hard times. However, by focusing on joyful experiences and practicing gratitude, you can feel better.

How can I practice paying attention to positive experiences?

  • Recognize the things in your life that are going well, no matter how small they might be. Start by listing 3 things that you are thankful for.
  • You can focus on the good. If you are feeling bad for something that is going well for you, try to shift your guilt into being grateful.
  • Take time to enjoy things. Do activities that bring you joy, even if they are as simple as breathing in fresh air, taking a warm shower, or lying still for two minutes.
  • Practice being thankful. For example, every night before bed, write/draw 3 things that you are thankful for or 3 parts of your day that went well, even if they were small moments

If you have questions, please contact Mr. Bradley Dunagan (bradley_dunagan@hcpss.org)or Mrs. Maria Brickley (maria_brickley@hcpss.org).
