LMS Tiger Talk

#EveryTigerEveryDay
Principal’s Message
This week was all about our teachers and staff as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week at LMS. We have the absolute best teachers here at LMS who deserve all the appreciation in the world every day, but this week we made it an extra special point to show our gratitude. Teachers make it a career to take care of students and to do all they can to help them learn and grow. I know the impact that my teachers had on me growing up, and I am proud to serve alongside such a dedicated and special group of educators here at LMS.
A special "thank you" to our wonderful M/INT PTSA for all they did this week for our teachers, including a coffee treat on Monday morning, room service treats and delivery on Tuesday, and a bagel brunch on Wednesday. We have such wonderfully supportive parents and we are so grateful for all of you! Thank you.
Please join us for LIS/LMS Music and Art Festival this Saturday, May 7 from 4-8 pm. Due to the forecast and impending rain, we've moved the concert indoors. All the performance times will stay the same and we'll still have food trucks available. Come on up to hear our amazing Intermediate School and Middle School musicians and walk the halls to see their art on display. We hope to see you there! More details can be found below.
On Monday, we welcome proud military service Veterans into our 8th-grade social studies classes to speak with students about their service to our country. We are excited to provide this opportunity for our students and so thankful to our Veterans for their selfless sacrifice.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Go Tigers!

Drug Take Back Day
Hello Loveland Tigers!
My name is Ashley Wheeler, and I’m hosting an eco-drive called Drug Take Back Day. I’m hoping to help the environment and protect our drinking water by collecting Loveland’s prescription drugs so they don’t end up getting flushed down the toilet. Flushing drugs down the toilet ends up creating environmental problems for animals, and can even allow them to enter the water we drink and use every day. Please help me stop this problem in an easy and eco-friendly community event taking place at Loveland High School on May 6th.
Drug Take-back Day will take place on Friday, May 6th, from 6:45 am-8:30am, and 2:00pm-4:00pm. The LPD will be present to safely dispose of all over-the-counter or prescription medications, and the tent can be found on the Rich Road side of the building.
Note: This dropoff is for adults only. Students should not bring items to school. Please visit here to learn more about this event: Drug Take Back Day. Contact for further questions: nkhatato@lovelandschools.org
Thank you for your consideration,
Tonya Nkhata (LHS Science Teacher) and Ashley Wheeler (LHS Student)

Second Step Social Emotional Learning
At LMS and across Loveland Schools, we want every child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.
This week, LMS students continue with social-emotional learning through the Second Step program, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem-solving, and empathy.
Through our Tiger Talk, with the purpose of providing this information with our families, we will be communicating “Family Connections” regularly to communicate the social-emotional learning topic and summary as well as a potential question to ask your child at home to continue the learning and connection.
7th Grade SEL Second Step Family Connections
8th Grade SEL Second Step Family Connections
If you have any questions about the Second Step program at LMS, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Shafer, LMS counselor, for more information. Ms. Shafer can be reached at shaferki@lovelandschools.org.
Outdoor Space Update
Plans are well on the way. The goal is to start construction in June. In order to achieve our goal, we will need to continue to fundraise. Please be on the lookout for the opportunity to purchase engraved bricks and furniture.
