Good evening Pony Parents,

In case you have not had time to count, we only have thirty school days before for the Thanksgiving Holiday dismissal. We honestly do not know where the time is going. Our students are busy with classroom learning and extra-curricular activities. There is a great deal of information in this newsletter so please scan through all sections. It's so important to stay in the communication loop with our school.

Last Friday evening our GMS Choirs held their Fall Concert. The students were amazing and we are so thankful for Mrs. Ann Bothe as she is leading our choirs to reach goals they never dreamed possible! Please see the picture below of students performing and thank you parents for making certain your child was present for the concert. There are great achievements ahead for our Pony Choirs!

Please keep the GMS Website bookmarked as it is updated daily. Currently we have information concerning College and Career Night, November 3rd, and Collegiate Academy Parent Coffee on November 5th.

Both these activities are extremely important to 8th grade Ponies.

The GMS Counselors page provides information for parents as you conquer the social, emotional, and educational needs of our middle school students.

We encourage you to attend the district's Parent Education Program: Empowering Parents event on October 13th, from 6:30 - 8:00 in the GCISD Board Room. Please use the link to sign up.

As I mentioned in a previous email our Student Advocate, Jennifer Lemke, is designing a support group for students struggling with parent divorce or separation. If you are interested in having your child participate please call Mrs. Lemke at 817-251-2660. The group will meet during our Personal Learning Period (1:05-1:45).

PSAT for 8th Graders

GCISD will be administering the National Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test to all students in 8th grade. There is no fee for 8th graers to take the PSAT 8/9. All students will be reporting to their pre-assigned test classes on Wednesday, October 14th at 8:10 where 8th grade teachers will be administering the test. Testing takes approximately 3 hours so we ask that you do not schedule any appointments during this time. 6th and 7th grade students will follow their regular schedule.

The PSAT 8/9 is a step to college and career opportunity. Students and their parents will be provided valuable feedback and tools to help them reach their college and career goals. If you have questions, please email Mr. Ramsey at

Student Attendance at After School Events

Once students enter into the gym for volleyball, basketball, or into the football gate we do not allow them to leave and re-enter. Safety of students is our first priority. We want you to feel comfortable leaving your child with us at these events knowing they are in the presence of school officials. Should your child go against our request and leave the activity you will need to pick them up immediately. We do not want students lingering in areas without supervision. Should you have questions, please let me know.

Lifetouch Pictures and Retakes

Picture packets were sent home with students on Thursday. If you did not order pictures your child brought home instructions on how to order, including a personal access code. If your child was absent or wants picture retakes, the date is November 6th. If they already ordered pictures, the student will have to return that package at the time of the retake November 6th.

Elimination of Call Out System

In an effort to streamline our campus communication process, we will no longer be using the phone call system for reminders of campus events, special meetings or other campus announcements. Instead, we will be relying on text message notifications, emails and updates on our campus Facebook page and website. In the event of a campus or district emergency, we will use all communications channels available to notify parents of the latest information - including phone calls.

Some of you may already receive text message alerts; however, if you have NOT signed up to receive these messges, instructions are included below:

To sign up for text alerts, please text “Yes” to 68453 to subscribe to the service. The cell number must be listed in Skyward Family Access in order to receive text messages from the district office or 817-251-5660. You may check or change the phone number listed by logging in to Family Access and clicking the button to update your phone numbers. Please be aware, some cell phone carriers will not allow text messages from short code numbers.

Our 1st Grading Cycle ends this Friday, October 16th. Please check with Skyward, your child and your child's teacher should you have questions or concerns. We want all students participating in our upcoming UIL activities.
