There is no charge for parking.
Seating:
Admission tickets are NOT required to attend our graduation ceremony. Seating for guests will be based on a general admission policy which means first to arrive will have the best seats. The doors will open for seating at 3:00pm. The arena will seat over 4,000 and several hundred seats for guests will be available on the arena floor. Parents are reminded that ‘saving’ seats is not appropriate. Please understand that it will not be possible to take individual pictures from the arena floor during the processional. Guests will not be allowed to block the view of others. Handicapped seating will be available along the top row of the seating area.
Graduate Dress Policy:
All graduates should be appropriately dressed and each will wear a cap and gown which they should have received at school. Students should wear dressy attire under their cap and gown. In the past, students have worn dress shirts and ties, dresses and/or skirts, dress pants and dress shoes. Graduates have been instructed to select sensible shoes that do not present a hazard when they are walking in the processional. Jeans, shorts and athletic apparel are not appropriate for the ceremony. Students needing assistance with this may contact our office.
Conduct & Behavior:
Commencement is a dignified, formal affair. Please understand that until a diploma is in a student’s hand, a student is subject to the Code of Conduct regulations. Graduation caps are expected to be clean of comments/designs. Beach balls, airhorns, and other noise makers are prohibited from being used during the ceremony. Remember to hold your applause until the last graduate’s name is read. We do not want a graduate’s name to be read and not heard.

Generally, students with last names A-L are located on the right side of the stage with students who are involved in musical performances in the front rows, and last names M-Z are located on the left side of the stage with Student Council members participating in the ceremony seated in the front rows.
Livestream Information:
We understand that some family members may not be able to attend in person and we want them to be able to celebrate with you. Fortunately, we are working with a contractor to Livestream the ceremony for those individuals who are unable to join us. The link should be live approximately 15 Minutes before the ceremony and you can access the link via YouTube using the web address below.

Noises During the Ceremony:
Graduation is a formal ceremony and we ask that all families help preserve an atmosphere of dignity and decorum. Please refrain from disruptive noises or behavior that may take away from this special occasion. As a reminder, all noisemakers are prohibited.

Graduates will receive their diploma cover as they cross the stage. Students who have successfully completed their requirements for graduation can pick up their diplomas after the ceremony. Office staff will be ready to hand out student diplomas in the lower level staging area immediately after the ceremony.
Pictures Before & During the Ceremony:
It will not be possible to take individual pictures from the area floor before or during the ceremony. Guests will not be allowed to block the view of others. We have contracted a photographer specializing in graduation photos, to take individual photographs of the seniors at the ceremony. These pictures will be available for purchase. Good afternoon East families,
Today was our seniors’ last day. Seniors were welcomed with a breakfast hosted by our fabulous kitchen staff. After finishing their exams, The Class of 2022 gathered in the auditorium to watch the Senior Video which highlighted many of the fantastic memories that our students have had at East over the past four years. It was amazing to see family members gather around our Spirit Rock to watch their seniors paint their names as the first graduating class to participate in this tradition. Thank you to Natalie Rochon, Ionna Goulas, and Shirley Visnyak for making this happen for East. This is truly an example of how a small group of individuals can make difference and have a lasting positive impact on our school!
We look forward to celebrating our seniors over the next week with Honors Night and Graduation, for detailed information about these events please see below. Congratulations Class of 2022, thank you for being a part of our family and showing others what it means to BE EAST!
Kind Regards,
Karen Fisher

South Lyon East Students, Parents, and Guardians,
It is hard to believe but our seniors completed their last full week of school as SLCS students. Seniors are with us for only four days next week, Tuesday May 31st through Friday June 3rd. Please note that there is no school on Monday May 30th in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Senior Exams will take place June 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Refer to the schedule below for specific times or click on the Senior Google Calendar in the heading.
In the past, SLE has not had a “Clap Out” for parents, but this year we have had many requests to make this happen. If you are interested in clapping for your senior as they leave the building after the senior video, you will need to meet them outside of door 16 (the entrance outside of the auditorium). We are asking parents to park across the street at Kroger and walk to door 16 from there. We have been given permission from Kroger to have parents park in their lot for this event temporarily. Please do not attempt to enter or park in the student or staff lots as these will be designated as “exit only” lots between 6:45 AM and 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3rd. Bond construction projects and a high volume of student drivers prevents us from being able to accommodate on campus parking for those who wish to participate in the clap out.
Parents should not plan to enter the building for the clap out as instruction will still be taking place for our 9th-11th grade students. Please be aware that seniors will be signing the new spirit rock and picking up yard signs as they head out of the building as well. Note: This is not mandatory for parents.
Please see the diagram below:

Dear Class of 2022 Parents and Guardians,
Graduation is just around the corner! I am writing to share specific information regarding your student’s commencement ceremony, as well as additional end-of-year events. Please share this information with your graduate.
In case you missed the note in our April 14th newsletter, this year’s graduation will be held at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth on Saturday, June 11th at 4:00 PM. There is ample seating available so tickets will not be required for the graduation ceremony. We made the decision to change our venue this year because the current Covid protocols at EMU include restrictions which do not align with the protocols we have in place for South Lyon Community Schools. Specifically, masks are currently required at EMU and are not required at USA Hockey Arena.
USA Hockey Arena has hosted graduation ceremonies for other districts for many years and we believe this location will provide a climate controlled environment that ensures an opportunity for the families and loved ones of our graduates to enjoy the ceremony without concerns about limited tickets, rain, heat or other challenging weather conditions.
Graduation is a wonderful, dignified ceremony where we pay tribute to our graduates and their families. Our graduates have demonstrated model behavior during past ceremonies, and we are confident that this year’s graduates will do the same. We hope that everyone attending our ceremony (including spectators) will respect the occasion and join us in our efforts to have a memorable event.
I am respectfully asking that all of our guests be mindful of our desire to protect everyone’s opportunity to hear and see all aspects of the ceremony. With that in mind, I am requesting that our attendees refrain from bringing anything (including beach balls, air horns, or other noise makers) to the ceremony or engaging in behaviors that will distract from the personal recognition of each graduate. USA Hockey security personnel will assist us in enforcing this request.
We also ask that our graduates wear dress attire for this special event. Past graduates have worn shirts and ties, dress pants, skirts, and dresses. We also recommend that graduates choose sensible shoes as they are required to walk quite a distance in the processional and recessional. We always remind students to iron or steam their gown ahead of time and we do not allow decorations on their caps. We appreciate your support and request that you remind your graduate of this prior to graduation day.
Our graduates will have a graduation rehearsal on Friday, June 10th at USA Hockey Arena. Caps and gowns should not be worn during the rehearsal. ATTENDANCE AT GRADUATION REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY. More details regarding the time of the rehearsal will follow very soon. Students who have questions about this requirement must speak with administration. In addition, for students to participate in the ceremony, all books and materials must be returned and fines must be paid by the date indicated on the attached end-of-year activities document.
If your senior has been awarded a scholarship to the university or college she/he has chosen to attend, please contact Mrs. Judy Martin in Student Services at (248) 573-8711 by May 13th with the name of the scholarship, the dollar value and the number of years for which it can be renewed. The awards are recognized (not including the dollar value) at our Senior Honors Program on June 7th at 7:00 p.m.
We are very excited for the Senior Class of 2022 and we are confident they will have a fantastic final month of their South Lyon educational experience. Again, thank you for reinforcing our expectations and for supporting your student at this very special time in their life.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Karen Fisher
