Schroeder Snapshots
Jan 10 - Jan 24
From the Associate Principal
Greetings Schroeder Families & Welcome to 2020!
It’s hard to believe the school year is at it’s midpoint. There are many exciting events to come. The third quarter starts Thursday, January 16, 2020. We will be celebrating students at our quarterly ACE assembly that morning.
Feedback is the word of the year - and a resolution for all at Schroeder Middle School. With the addition of an Instructional Design Coach this year our teachers are receiving more consistent and effective feedback on their classroom instruction. Schroeder staff has finalized an instructional model that prioritizes use of strategies most effective for learning – giving and getting student feedback is at the top of the list. Our teachers meet monthly on content PLC’s (Profession Learning Community) to improve on specific teaching strategies. Teachers also meet at the district level to continue work on content standards and proficiency scales.
Students will be asked to be a part of focus groups and surveyed on our school culture/climate. STAR testing for reading and math will start later in January. Coming in April students will be participating in the NDSA (North Dakota State Assessment) in ELA, Math and for 8th grade students, science.
Parents – we encourage you to continue to provide us feedback on Schroeder; call, email or stop in. Look for an upcoming survey coming to you. The entire Grand Forks school district will be participating in an accreditation visit by Cognia and a public forum in February, 2020. We invite you to participate in these events.
Parents, students, and all Schroeder staff are a vital part of the feedback loop! Join us in the work and growth. There’s so much more to come.
Sincerely
Associate Principal
Mrs. Judy Anderson

FROM THE THUNDERBIRDS:
to welcome a new member of the Thunderbird family, Ms. Gabby Jensen. Ms. Jensen is a
student teacher working in room 613 teaching math and reading. We are excited to have her
with us for the next sixteen weeks!
As we are nearing the end of the second quarter, we are noticing that it is time to replenish
some student supplies to assist in their success. Supplies in need are pencils, paper and
working earbuds.
Our 6th graders are busy working and learning; ask your student about the work they are doing
with Ancient Egypt, Algebraic Expressions, Physical/Chemical changes, and Biography writing.
Just a reminder that all students should be reading and enjoying their independent book choice each night as well as during the time given in class.
Thank you, families, for your continued support!
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN COACH:
Greetings from our IDC
With our first semester coming to a close, I would like to take a moment to share some of the great things that have happened in our first 18 weeks. As Schroeder’s Instructional Design Coach, I have the opportunity to work with many teachers throughout our school. Whether it is implementing new technology, trying new lessons or units, supporting new hires, or working with teachers on using different teaching strategies in the classroom, I get to see many facets of Schroeder each day. I am very proud of all the engaging teaching styles, strong classroom management and willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new that I have witnessed all year. Teachers have incorporated blogging, brought in local speakers to make real world connections and used coding in math and science. These are just a few of the examples of the awesomeness of our school. I can say with confidence that our staff is truly striving to do what is best for our students each and every day. I look forward to continue working with the teachers I had the opportunity to work with in the first semester and getting opportunities to work with the teachers I have not had a chance to yet.
