WHO WILL STAND IN THE GAP?
I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30)
This verse has always struck directly to my heart in my time here at Shiloh. In context, this verse was threatening God's wrath on Judea about six centuries before Jesus. The people had strayed so far away from God and had become so dark and twisted in their acts(not so different from culture today). That is when God looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before Him in the gap on behalf of the land so that he would not have to destroy it but, he found no one.
Just as God sought someone to intercede with him on behalf of his sinful people more than two and a half millennia ago but found no one, so too God seeks someone to intercede with him on behalf of his sinful people today.
Will he again find no one? It is a powerful appeal.
That is why this verse is so piercing to me here at Shiloh. I believe that one of our callings is to create an environment where students have the opportunity sharpen themselves and be the type of people that can stand in the gap!
It is our duty to equip students biblically and spiritually to face the world to come.
We need young people who are willing to step up and step in the gap between the culture and God. Our students must be the light in the darkness no matter if it is through their future occupation or vocational ministry; each have a major role in the future of NWA, Arkansas, and our Nation.
The same is true for us as adults..would we answer God's appeal for us to stand in the gap? Or does our culture, relationships, and occupations have to great of a hold on us and keep us silent or subdued?
Lead NWA well this week!
