History Bowl
Six of our Secondary students participated Saturday in a daylong History Bowl held at Dunya IB School and one of our teams qualified for the European finals of this international knowledge competition.
The team of Elanur Irem Gulamov, Shayla McLeod, and Jayden Bishop won enough of the five rounds and scored enough points to qualify. The other team, with Khadija Aliyeva, Dominik Rusak, and Aly Holmquist, gave it their best shot.
The other schools with students in the competition were Dunya, Landau, Baku Oxford School, and ADA School.
Mr. Haberman and Ms. Palik supervised the BIS students’ practice sessions. Questions in the tournament could be about any time and place in world history. The BIS students only practiced for the tournament for a few weeks, so they had every reason to be nervous when the first round began.
“It took a lot of courage for any of us to press the red buzzer and answer the question,” said Elanur. “However, we managed to turn the tide and get in the lead after a rocky start.”
Congratulations to the team that qualified and to all six students for participating!
