Principal's Message

We have almost made it to the end of the 2021-22 school year! What a ride?!! I

can’t say enough about our students, teachers, parents, and community. All of you

have played an enormous role in making this school year a success! Our staff and

students have worked so hard to catch up on unfinished learning due to the

pandemic. Thank you, parents, for supporting your child and being so flexible and

patient throughout the school year. Students have made incredible learning gains!

It is Teacher Appreciation Week! Let’s all use this week to celebrate our teachers

and support staff who give so much of themselves daily to promote the success of

Note from the Nurse

Reminder that if your student takes medication at school those will need to be picked up by May 26th no later than 11:00 am. If these are medications that your child takes daily they will need to remain at school until the last day they attend. However if it is medication that is taken on an as needed basis you can begin picking those up at your convenience. Awards days and graduations are always good days to come by the nurse office and pick those up.

Also, If you have a student that will be attending the 21st century or summer reading programs and they take medication or have any medical conditions please reach out to me as soon as possible so that we can review their medical plan for the summer programs. I hope you all have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you next school year!

Our classes were so excited to see the baby chicks that hatched in Mrs. Johnson's class. Mrs. Pettus' class was able to let their butterflies go last week. Mrs. Johnson's class is still waiting on the butterflies to emerge from their chrysalis! The kids had a lot of fun at the Color Run! Thank you Coach Elkins and Coach Peoples for putting that together. We are all looking forward to Field Day on May 6th (weather permitting)!

Continue to work on letters and sounds with your student. Read to your child for at least 20 minutes everyday! Let your child practice writing their name with different writing tools. We look forward to seeing you all at our Pre-K Celebration on May 24th! Watch for more details coming home soon!

CAPS Pre-K

We Made It!! I am so very proud of each of your kiddos and the progress that they have made. They are going to do amazing in kindergarten. Thank you parents for a great year. Please remember graduation is May 23 at 9:00. We will meet at Chuck E. Cheese at 8:45. Hope to see you all there!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is coming to a close very fast. We have enjoyed watching our students grow and learn this year. We are learning about shapes in math. In reading, we continue learning the most common words, new reading skills, and working on reading small passages and books. We have just finished up the AMSTI Unit in Science on Plants and Animals. We look forward to seeing students and families at the Kindergarten Completion Celebration at Riverfront Park in Sheffield, Alabama. Thank you for helping our kindergarten have an amazing year!

First Grade

Happy May from First Grade!!! We cannot believe the end of the school year is already here. We are working on finishing up our Social Studies Unit on "What is History". We are currently in Ch. 7 in Math and working on counting by 10's to 120, and also working on number lines. We will be starting Ch. 8 soon. In Reading the goal for May is 55 words per minute!!! We will also be starting some book units soon during our reading time. Field day is this Friday, May 6th. We are looking forward to finishing out the year strong!!!

2nd Grade

Second grade will be continuing to learn many things during our final month this school year. We will continue studying rocks and landforms, writing in different modes, more multisyllabic words, and regrouping in math. We will also be learning the basics of cursive writing. We encourage you to ensure your child is reading aloud to you each school night, and even more if possible. On a final note, please ensure that your child brings their Chrome Book charged to school each day, if they bring it home. Leaving Chrome Books at home and losing chargers at home is taking away our valuable learning time. We want to end the year strong and continue to learn as much as possible in this last month. Go Indians!

3rd Grade News

Thank you to all the family members who came to the field trip and/or the Color Run. As we near the end of another school year, we still have a lot of learning to complete. As always, please continue to help our 3rd grade scholars work at home on reading, multiplication facts, and completing homework! In math, we are learning about units of time, measuring mass, and measuring volume. Students should be practicing multiplication facts 0 to 10. It is very important that they know these facts with automaticity (can say the answer without thinking because they just know the answers). Please have your child read at home for at least 20 minutes daily.
