2015-16 Tentative SDE Testing Calendar

Writing Test Information

Please visit Assessment Materials on the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s (OSDE's) webpage to review the 2014-15 5th and 8th grade Writing test prompts and anchor sets. These anchor sets are student papers that have been reviewed by educators and members of the OSDE using the state’s writing rubric. Students’ papers were chosen as models to serve as exemplar papers at each score point for each of the traits. These student exemplars are helpful tools for writing instruction. We suggest using these anchor sets in the classroom to show students how to develop ideas, integrate and synthesize relevant details, and practice sentence variety and rich word choice.

Research shows that using writing models in the classroom encourages quality writing through high expectations. Please note that Spring 2015 exemplars were written according to a narrative prompt. There are now exemplars for all three modes available.

For 2015-16, the 5th and 8th grade Writing test schedule is available on the OSDE's Assessment webpage at: 2015-2016 Testing Calendar. Rubrics will remain the same and aligned to the current PASS standards for English/language arts. The mode for 2015-16 Writing assessments is not known at this time. Measured Progress will be the testing vendor.
