A Message From the Principal...
Hello Owls!
We hope you all enjoyed your Fall Break, and what a nice short school week we had! The students returned from the long weekend with a determination to win the Halloween Candy Drive for their classroom, and the response from donations was quite literally, MONSTEROUS! By the end of the day on Thursday, the school had received over 445 bags of candy! In the end, the race for the winning classroom was a close one—and we ended up with a tie for 1st place!
Huge congrats to both MR. MOORE and MS. KYLE’S classrooms for their efforts! Each class brought in 58 bags of candy! That is unreal!
We will be handing out candy by the handful during our Trick or Treat Street tonight and greatly appreciate everyone who purchased candy to donate to the school. We couldn’t have done it without you!
On a more classroom and student-focused note, student cell phone use has become a recent topic of discussion for our administration team, specifically with us seeing an increasing presence of cellphones in the younger grades. What we are now seeing is that students are using them on morning recess, the phones are going off in class in backpacks, and we’ve even seen some Tik Tok videos from within the building! Due to this, WAIS will be instituting a “no cell phone” policy. If your student must carry a cell phone to and from school they need to power it down and check it into their homeroom teacher at the beginning of the day and they can have it back at dismissal. If you need to reach your student parents can call into the front office and we can quickly radio your students as all employees have radios.
Lastly, we have had some continued misunderstanding regarding when Westy Academy hosts Dress Down Days. So, we wanted to be sure that we are clear on when they occur, to help families plan more accordingly. For the 2021-22 school year, Dress Down Days are held on the FIRST FRIDAY of every month. On these days, our PTO asks that students who “dress down” donate $1 to support student activities and events-such as Trick or Treat Street and Winter Wonderland. In line with the calendar, this coming Friday will be a Dress Down Day, as the first Friday of November.
That wraps things up for this short week! Looking ahead, things are going to be fairly calm around the school leading up to Thanksgiving Break. See everyone again next week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Warwick
