Tech For Teachers

August 15-31, 2012

Welcome Back!

I'm hoping that this newsletter will help you stay abreast of some of the new things coming out in educational technology. With the integration of iPads, iPod Touches and Web 2.0 apps in the classroom it is getting increasingly difficult to keep on top of what's out there. I will attempt to give you just a few of the new things that are out and include some of their uses in the classroom. This is a new resource and I'm always up for new information. If you have something that you have used that you think should be included in the newsletter please email it to me and I'll put it in. I look forward to hearing from you.

Staying Up-To-Date On the Latest Apps

Common Sense Media

New apps for iPads/iPods/iPhone and Android devices are being created every day so keeping up with them can be a daunting task. There is now a site that is doing a really good job of reviewing and categorizing these apps as they relate to education, making it easier to stay abreast of the apps that will be most appropriate for your subject and age group. Common Sense Media allows you to filter and search by apps and subject matter, skill, topic and genre.

Once you find an app you are given even more information such as Age, Ease Of Use, Violence, Language, Quality, and Overall Rating. You are then give text-based reviews of the apps. It's a great resource for teachers who are trying to determine whether a paid app might be right for them and their students before they buy.

Common Sense Media also has the same reviews and resources for all types of media both educational and main-stream so check it out for other resources. It also has an entire section for educators that includes some great digital citizenship resources. Check it out at
