Glacier Ridge Elementary School 04.09.20

Dear Glacier Ridge Families and Polar Bears,

We have made it two weeks of remote learning! Congratulations to all! We know how hard students, staff, and families are working to bring this all together. We are so proud of the team effort. We hope that you will take this three day weekend to relax and enjoy one another's company.

Most Sincerely,

Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Adams

Look at what some of our Polar Bears have been doing in their learning!

We would love to see what your kiddos have been doing in their learning! Please see below for more info on how to send us a picture or two! #PolarBearPride

Calling for Photos!

We want to see our students learning at home and what you are doing as a family during this “Stay at Home” period. Please submit photos to us at raadams@d47.org. If you post these on your own social media accounts, be sure to tag Glacier Ridge on our social media accounts and use hashtags #ILSchoolsStepUp and #D47StepsUp.

From the Health Office

If you wish to pick up any medications (emergency and/or scheduled) in the event that you need them now, please reach out to Mrs. Kori Simons at kjsimons@d47.org. Mrs. Simons will then provide a day and time next week for them to be picked up. Thank you!

Google Hangouts / Chats (Text) & Video

As we continue to develop the best way to deliver remote learning the district is now making it easier for your child's teacher to support their learning. Please see the message below from the district:

Google Hangouts is a communications tool that enables text, voice, or video chats, either one-on-one or in a group. Under normal circumstances (when learning takes place at school), Google Hangouts is disabled on students’ Chromebooks. However, to allow teachers and students to interact with one another during remote learning, we have enabled this feature. While we are excited about this new way for teachers and students to communicate, we ask that students follow the expectations for using Google Hangouts outlined below:

  • Google Chat via text: Google text chats are allowed between a teacher and a student one-to-one. All messages are archived by the District.

  • Google Chat via video: One-to-one Google video chats are not allowed. Video chats are ONLY permitted when more than two people are involved. Scenarios can be:

    • Teacher, student and parent

    • Two or more students with teacher

    • Teacher, student, and another adult in the room with teacher

As a reminder, we recommend that parents supervise students and children while they are on the internet when possible.
