Our 5th grade will be directed by the great Beth Richey-Sullivan.
Beth Richey-Sullivan is a native of Kansas City, Missouri where she completed her undergraduate degree in both Choral & Instrumental Music Education at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Conservatory of Music & Dance. She received her Master’s of Music in Choral Conducting at UCLA with the world renowned Donald Neuen.
Beth has been conducting church music since the young age of 19. In California, she was the Musical Director of the Towne Singers in La Cañada, where she commissioned Eric Whitacre’s “Seal Lullaby” and conducted 7 successful seasons. She also taught for 8 years at Hoover High & Toll Middle Schools in Glendale, CA where she conducted Choral Music, grades 6-12. Her students received multiple outstanding music rankings at local, district & national festivals. When Beth began the program, there were 8 singers in the choir. She grew the program to over 200 musicians.
In her 11th year of teaching, Beth is currently the Choral Conductor at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS. Last year, the BVNW Chorale received perfect scores from all judges at State Large Group Festival.
Beth is active in ACDA & KMEA and is a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota Music fraternity. She resides in Overland Park, KS with her husband Patrick and their children, Iris, Aiden and Elijah.
Our 6th grade will be under the direction of Beth Files. Beth Files is a newly retired teacher from the Lee’s Summit School District after 32 years of teaching.
Beth spent the last 17 years at Summit Lakes Middle School as the 7/8 Choral Director, Lead Teacher, and Musical co-director. Beth was named the 2014 Lee’s Summit Teacher of the Year and her choirs have performed for the Missouri Music Educators Convention (2009), American Royal, Missouri Mavericks, Kansas City Royals and the Harlem Globetrotters. The choirs of Summit Lakes Middle School have won the Overall Best Choir and Division Championship from Music in the Parks several years in a
row. Beth has also worked for the Blue Valley School District, Raymore-Peculiar School District and the Harrisonville School District where she was named Rotary Teacher of the Year in 1996. She has worked in various endeavors for the American Choral Directors Association both on the National and Regional levels and most recently as the R&S middle level chair for the Missouri Choral Directors Association. Beth has run a private music studio for more than 35 years and is also the Traditional Worship leader at
Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit where she conducts the adult Chapel Choir, Gospel Choir and Orchestra. Beth and her husband, Mark, reside in Lake Winnebago where they enjoy boating and fishing.

Schedule for the Day
8:00 a.m. Registration for both choirs in the Utt lobby closest to Administration Building
9:00 a.m. Rehearsals - 5 in Utt Music band room / 6 in Hendricks Hall
10:15 a.m. Directors’ meeting in Utt Music classroom
11:00 a.m. Lunch on your own
12:30 p.m. Rehearsals - 5 in Hendricks Hall / 6 in Utt Music band room
2:00 p.m. 5th & 6th grades restroom and drink break
2:15 p.m. 5th grade lines up backstage & last-minute instructions / 6th grade goes to Hendricks Hall balcony
2:30 p.m. 5th Grade Honor Choir Concert at Hendricks - Students will exit from the front of the stage and be released to parents or directors immediately following the concert (those 5th graders staying can go to the balcony)
3:00 p.m. 6th grade lines up in lobby & last-minute instructions
3:15 p.m. 6th Grade Honor Choir Concert at Hendricks - Students will exit from the front of the stage and be released to parents or directors immediately following the concert
(If the 6th Grade Concert starts a little late, that’s okay. We just don’t want the students waiting around and doing nothing for a long period of time.)

Additional Information
Rehearsals will be in the band room of the Utt Music Building and Hendricks Hall in the Administration Building. The concerts will be presented in Hendricks Hall. Directions are as follows:
For Utt Music Building: Take Business Highway 13 (Maguire St.) into Warrensburg. Turn west on South St. and then an immediate right for parking. Walk across the parking lot and enter the building through the north rear entrance.
For Hendricks Hall: Take the same directions and park in the same lot, but use the curved sidewalk on the right that will lead you to the front entrance of Hendricks Hall.
