HSE Schools Community Bulletin Board
Want to know what new and exciting things are happening in 2018? Check out the CBB!
HSE Schools has created a Community Bulletin Board on its district website. This will serve as a central location to find information about activities and events promoted by organizations that serve our students and their families. This is where the Fishers Library, YMCA, S.P.O.R.T.S. and other groups' registration information will be located.
iPad return on MONDAY 5/21!!
The following information only applies to students and families who rented an iPad from HSE this year. We ask these families to carefully review the following information.
- WHEN AND WHERE WILL RENTAL IPADS BE COLLECTED? - iPads will be collected on 5/21 during the school day.
- WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE THE IPAD FOR RETURN? We ask that families follow the directions in the link below to prepare the iPad for return. It is important that families follow all steps in the link. It is important that families DO NOT erase/reset the iPad on their own. HSE must verify that the iPad has been signed out of their Apple ID before the iPad is reset. Any apps that have been downloaded under the student’s or family’s iTunes account will remain yours in the cloud and can be downloaded again onto another device if the same iTunes account is used. Please note, if during the collection process we find that your student’s iPad is not signed out of iCloud, you will be contacted by the school asking for your iCloud password. https://goo.gl/L3osfy
Important items frequently forgotten:
- iCloud account must be removed
- Do NOT erase the iPad completely
- WHAT NEEDS TO BE RETURNED? All students will return their rented HSE iPad and cases.
- WHAT ABOUT CHARGING BRICKS AND CORDS? Rented cords and bricks will not be collected. If you are a new renter, you are welcome to keep the rented cord and brick that were issued to you. Repeat renters for 2018-19 and beyond will not receive a new cord and brick. You may use the one initially provided to you or you may provide your own.
- WHAT IF THE IPAD IS DAMAGED? WHAT ARE THE FEES? Upon collection, the iPad and case will be checked for any obvious visible damages. A more thorough inspection will later assess the working condition of the iPad and case. Any damage to the iPad and/or case will result in fees being assessed to the student’s account. Following inspection, the iPad will be erased of all content and stored for the summer.
Sample fees that could be applied to the student’s account:
- Missing iPad case (or damaged where it cannot be reissued) - $49.95
- Cracked or severely scratch screen - $79
- Other damage (i.e., broken headphone jack or loose video cable) - $79
- Liquid damage to the iPad or other damage to the iPad beyond repair - $299
- Lost, missing, or unreturned iPad - $299
- WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT DURING COLLECTION AND DOES NOT TURN IN THEIR DEVICE? If your child is absent during collection and it is after May 25th, you may return your device and case to the Administration Building, 13485 Cumberland Rd., Monday-Friday between 7:30am and 3:30pm.
We appreciate your assistance with the return of this equipment.

Counselor's Corner
Helping Your Child With Transition
It is very normal for children to worry about transitioning to a new grade or school. Some children will be affected by grade/school transitions more than others.
Whether your child is entering junior high, or just moving up another grade, preparing him/her is very helpful and important.
- Focus On The Positives: new friends, new teachers, and new opportunities
- Address Fears: listen to and validate your child’s fears, talk about fears you had at their age & how you handled it
- Attend School Events: take advantage of orientations, many include tours of the building, looking at lockers, getting class schedules
- Reach Out For Support: if your child is experiencing high levels of stress or anxiety about the upcoming transition, consult available resources (books, internet, family friends) or reach out to the school counselor and teacher
Fun Family Summer Ideas
Spending quality time with your child does not have to be expensive. Sometimes the most valuable things don’t cost any money at all:
- Take a walk or go for a bike ride around your neighborhood.
- Visit the art museum or the Indiana State Museum.
- Go to the park. Pack a picnic lunch and invite some friends!
- Go to the public library. They have great activities all summer long.
- Start a family book club. Read the same book as your child and discuss.
- Go for a hike at one of the state parks.
- Have your child keep a journal of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Keep them in the habit of writing.
- Do a family community service project. Pick up litter, work at a food bank.
- Teach your child how to cook and bake.
- Write letters to friends and family.
Have a great summer FCI students and parents!

The camp will be staffed by 5 current HSE Intermediate grade teachers, and there will also be 2 teachers representing the Chinese delegation.
Registration is open for the HSE Preschool!
Are you looking for a preschool program for your 3- to 5-year-old? HSE offers half-day preschool classes at Brooks School Elementary, Hoosier Road Elementary, Sand Creek Elementary and Sand Creek Intermediate.
Each class is taught by a licensed teacher, and an instructional assistant also aids the children. Class sizes remain small with no more than 18 students in a room. The times are 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Some families prefer the five-day option. The tuition cost is $300 per month. Others prefer fewer days per week. Families may also select two days per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays) for $120 per month or three days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) for $180 per month. There is also a yearly $90 supply fee.

Attention all 5th Grade Students & Parents!
5th Grade Parents - FCI Band and Orchestra
We are extremely excited that your 5th grade student has expressed an interest in participating in the FCI Band or Orchestra next year in the 6th grade! We know that for many of us, this may be your first child to show interest in participating in an instrumental ensemble. We hope that this section can answer a few questions and set your mind at ease about this awesome opportunity for your student!
THE PROCESS........
Mr. Spidel, Mrs. Yoder, and Mr. Wirtz, the directors, visited all of the 5th grade music classes in April to demonstrate the various instruments of the band and orchestra. They also talked about the great opportunity the students have to participate in these groups next year as 6th graders. An informational brochure was sent home with students as well as an instrument fitting permission form. This form gave parent consent for students to come down and try out the instruments. We had over 280 students go through the fitting process!!!!!! It was fantastic!
INSTRUMENT TRY ONS........
During the first week of May, students came down and tried out instruments. To get everyone fitted in the amount time allowed, students were able to choose two to three instruments from band and orchestra. Once they were finished, they had a conversation with one of the directors. They were asked, "Out of everything that you tried out, what was your favorite instrument? What was your second favorite instrument?" We asked them to rank it on a scale of 1-10. If their top two choices were one in band and one in orchestra, they had to make a decision. Most everyone left the try on process with their first or second choice. And others left undecided between their two choices to discuss and get back with us on their decision.
Everyone did an outstanding job!
WHAT'S NEXT?........
Our 6th Grade Band and Orchestra Registration night is on 5/21/18 at 7:00pm in the FCI Gymnasium to discuss the program as well as how to obtain and instrument. There are several options to obtain an instrument, however we want to ensure that everyone gets a good quality instrument. If you can get milk, paper towels, and an instrument at the same store, you may not be getting a high quality instrument.
We will also pass out student commitment forms that will need to be signed in order to get your student enrolled in band or orchestra.
We will have a representative from Paige's Music to discuss instrument rental. Although Paige's Music is not your only option, they do provide a wonderful convenient service to the students in HSE. If Paige's Music is the right choice for you, they will be able to set you up that evening with an instrument for the start of the school. Please have your checkbook/credit card with you for this option.
IS IT TOO LATE TO GET FITTED FOR AN INSTRUMENT?....
NOT AT ALL! If your student did not come down during try on week it is not too late. The easiest way is to actually go to Paige's Music located at 65th and Binford Blvd. They have music experts that will take you and your student to a private room and fit them on an instrument. Just tell them that you are a 5th grader at Fall Creek Intermediate.
For more information please visit the Fall Creek Music Department website:

Attention all 6th Grade Students & Parents!
It is not too late to sign up for a performance ensemble next year at Fall Creek Junior High! If you would still like to join Choir, Band, or Orchestra all you have to do is contact Mrs. Ryan or Mrs. Brooks and let them know to add it to your schedule! Besides learning to sing or play an instrument, our Performing Arts Department takes an end of the trip to King's Island as well as a few Skyzones night through out the year! Don't miss out on all the fun!
FCI Teams Up with Goodwill
Fall Creek Intermediate and HSE school district have teamed up with Goodwill to collect clothing donations. HSE schools will receive a Goodwill clothing voucher to distribute to those in need for every 13-gallon bag of gently used clothing received. The FCI bin is located in the music hallway near the display cases.
