Literacy Learning with 21st Century Tools
Professional Development with Julie Keefe, WPS Instructional Tech Coach
The goal of today's session is to develop a sense of comfort with the iPad as a classroom tool for creation and collaboration. We'll look at whole group, small group and 1:1 integration ideas. During our time today we will be examining three key tools for literacy instruction with meaningful tech integration. Discovery Education is a tool for building background knowledge and balanced literacy resources, free apps are tools students can use to showcase their skills and lastly Padlet will serve as a quick & easy space for online discourse.
Is this iPad training? No, it's a chance to engage today's classroom tools in a meaningful way.
“It is not about the technology; it’s about sharing knowledge and information, communicating efficiently, building learning communities and creating a culture of professionalism in schools. These are the key responsibilities of all educational leaders”. – Marion Ginapolis
Today's key features:
Discovery Education
An incredible resource for building background knowledge, as well as resources for balanced literacy.
iPad Apps
The iPads are a powerful tool for student creation of content. Free apps like Camera and QuickVoice are just a few.
padlet
A free online resource that makes creating a web page simple and gives you the ability to moderate posts.
How can I make this work in the classroom?
Taking Today's Learning into Your Classroom
Today's learning does not end at the end of our time together. If you would like to schedule a 1:1 session, a model lesson, or just to have some support in the back of the room as you try out these new tools please email me to schedule a date and time.
