TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More

Principal Young's News:
"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." This quote is by Brene Brown and connects nicely with our Character Trait of the Month of "Courage". Having courage helps students navigate social and emotional challenges. In school, students are learning how to adapt to difficult situations and attain their personal and academic goals. Children who have courage, admit when they are wrong, make good choices when others do not, and are kind to those who are unkind.
It was great seeing a lot of you this past Friday night at our very first Glow in the Dark Bingo. Thank you to our PTA for hosting such a fabulous event for our students and parents!
Warmly,
Principal Young
Vista 2022-2023 Yearbook:
The flyer is attached regarding details to purchase this year's school yearbook. Below is the website and School ID#.
School ID # is 710766
Reminders:
Sandals/Open-Toed Shoes & Pajamas to School:
Please do not send your child to school in open-toed shoes or sandals. There have been quite a few injuries when students wear sandals or open-toed shoes to school. Also, students should not wear pajamas to school, UNLESS it is a Pajama Day.
Cough and/or Fever & Returning to School Protocol:
Please remember, if your student has a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and/or loss of taste and/or smell, our District's COVID protocol requires a negative COVID test in order to return to school. Please email a picture of the negative test to our office clerk, Mrs. Heide at heiderose.schoenmank@simivalleyusd.org.
Cooler Weather in the Forecast: As the weather gets cooler these next months ahead, please make sure your child has a sweatshirt, sweater, or jacket for school. The early mornings can be chilly when students arrive to school and the wind seems to change throughout the day.
Lost & Found News: Please LABEL all of your child's sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, backpacks and lunch bags. We have quite a collection of LOST items that are located at the front of the school, outside of the office. After 3 weeks of collecting LOST items, we will be making a donation to a local charity organization as it is just too many LOST items that do not get picked up. Please stop by the front of the office and check the Lost & Found rack.
Neighbors and Trash:
It has been brought to my attention by a few neighbors that a lot of trash is accumulating at the sidewalks and front yards of neighbors' houses. Please help keep the neighborhood clean by throwing away your garbage. Thank you!
Daily Attendance:
Please call the school office at (805) 520-6750 to report your child's absence. Parents and guardians have up to 5 days to report their student's absence, otherwise, the absence becomes a truancy/unexcused absence.
School Start Time and Gates:
Our gates open at 7:40 a.m. each day.
Students eating breakfast can enter the front gate of the school starting at 7:35 a.m.
The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Teachers and students should be at their classroom line by the 7:55 a.m. bell.
The tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. If students enter the gates after 8:00 a.m., they will be considered tardy.
*Starting these healthy life habits of being on time, sets your student up for success.

Health Office News & Guidelines

What if my child has an emergency at school?
Every year, we require parents to complete and update their child's health records and other authorizations in EACH CHILD'S AERIES ACCOUNT. That is where our staff looks when we have questions or concerns about your child's medical status and it's very important that this information is updated at least annually. This is also where we can see your child's emergency contacts. If your student is sick or injured, we will always try to contact you first. If we are unable to reach you, we will then contact those on your emergency list who are authorized to pick up or release your child from school. Office staff is trained in First Aid and CPR. If your child is experiencing a life threatening emergency, we will call 911 for assistance and then notify a parent or guardian.
Can my student take medication while at school?
All medicines, even over the counter remedies like Tylenol, Motrin and cough drops require authorization from both a parent/guardian and a physician. Please call or come by the school office to pick up a medication form. Medicines are kept only in the Health Office and must be stored in their original labeled containers.
What if my student is on crutches or has a cast?
We will need a doctor's note to indicate specific limitations or concerns.
What if my student doesn't feel well and wants to come home?
If your child is feeling sick, please have them check in at the Health Office. Often times, just a short rest or a little snack is all they need to get back to class. We check their temperature and other symptoms before we call you, so you can better judge if you need to call the doctor.
What health information would you like us to know about your student?
Please review and update the medical information in your child's Aeries account at the beginning of each school year and as needed throughout the year. Please note any severe allergies to foods or medications; chronic or recurrent illnesses; and what medications your student is taking. Current information is helpful as it may affect your student's schoolwork and their safety. Please call our office if you any questions or concerns.

New Check-in System for Safety
We started using the Raptor Technologies System in our school office.
- All visitors and volunteers accessing the campus (with students and staff) will need to present their ID, passport, or birth certificate for the first check-in.
*The system will automatically save the information, after the first use.
- This will search the Megan's Law Sex Offender Database.
- Visitors/Volunteers will have a badge printed with their picture from their ID as well as what location of the school they are visiting.
- We will use this for visitors and volunteers working on our school campus during school hours, (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
- This is an extra measure of safety being implemented on our campuses.
Thank you!
Thank you to all of the Vista students and parents that participated in the event. It was a very fun evening and received "Glowing" remarks!
