Greetings CES Families,
Please remember to set your clocks back an hour Saturday night before you go to bed. We'll be starting school on Monday with the adjusted daylight savings time.
We had an incredibly productive day on Friday learning and growing as professionals. Our K-2nd grade teachers spent the entire day focusing on reading instruction with a strong emphasis on phonics, phonemic awareness and orthography, all foundational components for learning how to read accurately. Our 3rd-6th teachers spent the day reviewing strategies and resources to further support writing instruction for students, including narrative, persuasive and informative writing. Our classified staff all spent the day in Quincy learning about a variety of topics to fit their needs. We are excited to see our students on Monday to begin implementing our new strategies and information.
Power outages. Hopefully, we won't experience any additional power outages resulting in school delays. Last Monday morning it was chilly at school. We have diesel fuel heaters, but we also need electrical powered fans to disperse the heat. If the power goes out during the school day, the building will remain fairly warm for a few hours, so we can continue with school and have enough natural light to continue our learning. In the future, we will continue to notify and update our families at around 6:00 am through our Facebook page, and via text, email and voice calls. Contact information is pulled from our Aeries data management system. If you did not get a call last Monday, please check to see that your contact information is accurate (phone and email). You can access our Aeries data management system by visiting our website or the district website, then logging in to our system.
Reading each night? 20 minutes/night. Send me your pictures and your favorite books and we'll put them in an upcoming newsletter!
Chester Elementary PTA. We appreciate the many avenues our small but mighty PTA leaders support our students. They can always use help. Please click on the link below to learn more about the many benefits of PTA, and consider joining by visiting the office to pick up a form. Cost is only $6.
Taco Dinner November 19! Please join us for a festive evening and an enjoyable dinner, and support our wonderful PTA friends. See a 4th grader, 6th grader or the office for tickets.
Plumas Rural Services offers parenting support classes. Our children don't come with owner's manuals and there's no shame in learning how to become a better parent for the benefit of your child. I've taken advantage of dozens of parenting classes and it helped me as a dad, grandpa and school employee. For more information please visit their site: https://www.plumasruralservices.org/parenting/index.html Thanks for considering.
In closing, we appreciate your ongoing support and teaming with us to make 2019-2020 an exceptional elementary experience for our students. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!
We are safe at CES with these 3 protecting us!
