Miss Courtney's Class
This week......
On Tuesday we played an awesome game with Miss Kara and Miss Kelly during an intergrated therapy lesson. We had the kids stand on a colored circle and jump across a jump rope to another circle. They had to keep their feet together and really use their eyes to hit the mark. We worked on balance and motor planning.
We also started to talk more about Thanksgiving and turkeys today! We worked together during a whole group lesson and sponge painted a large turkey using fall colors. We identified and learned sign language for the colors red, yellow, and orange.
On Wednesday, we had a new student visit. His name is Alfredo! Welcome to class Alfredo, we are so glad that you are here! Today we worked together to make cinnamon play dough. Prior to our lesson we smelled different fall type spices. We smelled cinnamon, ginger, mint, garlic, and star anise. ( smells like black licorice) This helped to wake up our sensory systems. We talked about if we liked the smell or not. As we made our playdough, we all touched the soft flour and the scratchy salt. We poured water, mixed the dough and added the yummy cinnamon. Everyone kneaded and worked the dough to strengthen our hands.
On Thursday, we had a mini day. We made a challenging obstacle course with a balance beam and a huge wedge mat to roll up and down. The kids are LOVING playing in the kitchen center. They are getting really involved in dramatic play and using the kitchen toys appropriately. It is so neat to watch them get so excited about it. We came to circle and took turns using the smart board. We went on the starfall website and did a lesson on the letter T. We learned about things that started with T like, trains, taxis, tigers and of course...turkeys! Thank you for sending in your thankful feathers for our classroom turkey. We placed the turkey at the end of our hallway. The kids get to walk down and hang up their own feathers which they really have enjoyed!
On Friday, we had another mini day. We worked in small groups to create some amazing Thanksgiving crafts. Everyone made their own placemats. We painted our hands and turned our prints into turkeys. In another group the kids got to turn a letter T into....you guessed it! A turkey! Haha . They loved gluing the feathers on and adding a silly googley eyeball. We read 5 silly turkeys and sang along to music on the smartboard. We love singing and dancing together. We had to get outside today because it was so beautiful. We loved climbing the rock wall mountain, the laddders, and zooming down the slide. After a quick snack time it was time to go home already! Since it was such a quick day, we accidentally forgot to check the folders. I am so sorry if anyone sent in feathers today for our turkey! If you did, please resend them on Monday!
