Kindness for Christopher

October 5th we will be kicking off our Kindness initiative with an assembly titled Kindness for Christopher.

The week of October 8th, I am asking all teachers to schedule time for their students to develop a quote or a saying regarding good character. I have 300+ painted river rocks in various different colors. Each student will get a rock to inscribe a kind message, saying, or quote.

The children are going to sign a Kindness Pledge at the conclusion. Once the rocks are prepped, we will be gathering students to assist in the development of our Kindness Garden which will be assembled in the front of the school building. Below is an article on how the Kindness for Christopher movement began.

Last week our "Quote of the Week" was "Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Courage means you don't let fear stop you." -Bethany Hamilton

The Power of Developing a Growth Mindset!

Click the box below to learn about the work of Carol Dweck and the ideology of developing a growth mindset. I will be discussing how we are implementing this in the building at Back to School Night.

Putting Our Best Foot Forward!

The pitter patter of little feet can be heard in a steady stream---down to the principal's office! Students are being recognized for positive behavior such as being respectful, responsible, safe, kind, and persevering just to name a few. Student are nominated by teachers or school personnel. These inspirational students visit the Principal to celebrate their recognition. This initiative builds a positive relationship between students and staff while acknowledging the efforts of community members. What treasures we are finding here at Sussex Avenue school!

Congratulations to 3rd grader Hannah T., and 4th graders Kalaisa C., Charlotte H., Harry M., and Jason W. for being recognized for persevering, responsibility, and showing kindness towards others. Great job ladies and gentlemen, keep shining brightly!
