Pioneer Day!

ABC-Stewart runs on a 3 year history curriculum. This year is American History, and that means this year it's...

...PIONEER DAY!

Think Little House on the Prairie.

We're looking for parent volunteers that share a skill set with the early pioneers. Candle dip on the weekends? A champion stick n hoop-er? Maybe you have an old Conestoga wagon sitting in your backyard. Or maybe you know a guy. Let us know.

We're also looking for volunteers to help on September 30th. This could entail manning a station or activity, helping the students to and from activities, setting up and tearing down of stations, etc.

If this is something that you can help with, please reply by September 13th to

1st Year Festival!

Several first year students shared about the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Cynthia Lin, Claire Chen, and Veronica Kao told stories and performed a play to inform their classmates about this holiday in the Chinese culture. Edward Meir and Jolie Lin also performed in the play.

The Mid-Autumn Festival dates back over 3,000 years. This year, the festival was held on September 10th. On this day, the Chinese people believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest. The full moon symbolizes reunion and celebration. People gather with friends and family to thank and harmonize the harvest and pray for good fortune. The Mid-Autumn festival is also based on the legend of Chang'e, the moon goddess in Chinese mythology.

They also brought in mooncakes for the other students to try. Mooncakes are a rich pasty typically filled with sweet-bean, egg yolk or lotus-seed paste. The cakes are eaten at this festival.

Another symbol of the Mid-Autumn festival is a lantern. Lanterns of all sizes and shapes are carried and displayed. This symbol is to light people's path to prosperity and good fortune.

The students had the opportunity to make their own mooncakes by using playdough and presses.
