Parsons Celebrated National School Counselors Week

School counselors are change agents and social emotional leaders within our schools.

Our two counselors, Ms. Maxwell and Ms. Vosough, work under the umbrella of many different roles and responsibilities, while always keeping students first.

Their work has been challenging, unprecedented, and needed! The work our school counselors do is 'heart' work and HARD work! and they deserve a week of celebration.

Thank you #schoolcounselors for all you do. Happy National School Counseling Week!

Superbowl LVI

Whether a Falcons fan, Bengals fan, or Rams fan...we are all fans of fun! The cafeteria held a trivia drawing where students had to answer a Superbowl-related question. We held a drawing on the morning announcements and Kidus A. in Mrs. Piper's 4th-grade class was the lucky winner of Superbowl LVI football.

CEE Parent Perception Survey

GCPS will not be sending out the RBES Parent Perception Survey as previously stated in last week's eNews. Dr. Watts, our district superintendent, is working with the Center for Educational Effectiveness and as part of our district's continued work to create sustainable change in schools and communities so every child is whole—healthy, safe, challenged, supported, and engaged, our district will ask our families to participate in the CEE survey instrument this year instead of our traditional RBES Parent Perception Survey.

Local schools will be receiving more information in the coming weeks about the CEE survey that will be distributed to parents and families in March.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place the week of February 28th-March 4th with a Digital Day on Wednesday and Early Release at 12:50 on Thursday.

Conferences will be held over Zoom. Be on the lookout for an email/letter from your child's teacher that contains the class code. Parents will sign up using the class code provided by the teacher at Parents may request an in-person conference but must notify the teacher by email if they prefer to attend in person. For help signing up for a conference, please see the document attached below.

Teachers will send conference Zoom links by email on February 25th.

Birthday Celebrations

Just a reminder of our birthday celebration policy. This can be found in our Student/Parent Handbook as well.

Birthday Celebrations

Because of allergies, students wishing to have a treat for their class should use the Ice Cream plan. This plan provides ice cream for every student in the class for $1 per student. Birthday parties are not allowed at school, and invitations cannot be given out at school unless every student in the class receives an invitation. Balloons, flowers, etc. cannot be delivered to children at school or taken home on the bus. Party invitations may not be distributed at school.

If you will ask the teacher how many students are in the classroom, you can send in money and let the teacher know which day that week you would like to purchase ice cream for the entire class in honor of your student's birthday. The students all get to choose which ice cream they would like and they receive it at lunch that day. Thank you for your understanding.

Parsons will participate in a Tornado Drill on February 16, 2022

Tornado drills, also known as severe weather drills, are an important element in tornado preparedness. Like any other safety drills, they increase chances of correct response to a real tornado threat. We all hope that we never have to endure a tornado, but we also want to make sure our students and staff are prepared in the event that our crazy Georgia weather brings one our way. If you have any questions about our scheduled drill, please reach out to your child's teacher or administration.

Kid's Heart Challenge: THANK YOU, PARSONS!

Parsons, you are AMAZING!!! As you know, we've been participating in the Kids Heart Challenge. The last day was Friday, February 4, and we now have the final total. Our goal for registered students was 75. We had 64 students that registered and took a Heart Healthy Challenge! Our goal for donations was $2,500. We now have the final total. Our wonderful Parsons family raised $4,429.30! That's almost twice our goal!! Thank you so much for your generosity. These funds will help advance medical research, community outreach, and education to help fight heart disease and stroke.

Thank You Gifts from Kids Heart Challenge

If your child earned Upper-Level Thank You Gifts during the Kids Heart Challenge, they have been ordered and will be delivered as soon as the shipment arrives. Thank you again for your support!

We will be sharing the love on February 14th here at Parsons. Teachers will be sharing a list of student names so they can make Valentine cards for their classmates. Parents may send in 'store bought', individually wrapped treats for the class.

Department of Community Services Special Events for February

Mask Guidance…

When students returned to in-person instruction on Jan. 6, masks were required due to a HIGH level of community transmission. The district’s updated mask guidance is based on community transmission as determined by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). For the rest of the semester, families and staff will be notified via School Messenger each Monday afternoon about mask guidance for the rest of the week. Under the district’s current COVID-19 protocols, community transmission levels must be maintained at the MODERATE or LOW level for two consecutive weeks before district mask guidance transitions to “Strongly Recommended.” (Note that staff and students returning early from COVID-19 isolation would be required to wear a mask through Day 10, regardless of community transmission rates and the district’s current masking guidance.)

GMAS: Georgia Milestones Testing Dates

The Georgia Milestones EOG Elementary School Schedule is now available. Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will take the GMAS beginning in April.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the Parent Portal, please visit
