Bobcat Bulletin
Week of January 25th
Happy Weekend, Bobcat Families,
Wow! What a great week we had welcoming back to the building some of our K, 1, 2, and 5th graders! We are looking forward to welcoming our final two grade levels, 3rd and 4th grade this week! We also learned of an A+ award winner at Brookdale (see below for a video!)! As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, January 25th due to our School Improvement Planning Day.
You should have received a copy of your child's schedule from his/her classroom teacher. If you did not receive a schedule from your child's teacher, please contact them.
We realized last week how hard schedule changes are on all of us, kids and adults. I am confident as we get into a new schedule, as is with any new routine, in time it will become our new normal. We appreciate your patience and confidence in us as we transition into our full hybrid schedule for all of our students this week.
Thank you to PTA Chairperson Matt Guerrero who led the Brookdale Virtual Game night on Friday! We cannot wait to hear all of the excitement from the students! Thank you for your coordination and helping keeping kids connected virtually!
Thank you to Mrs. Dillon, who filled in for Mrs. Lenc, our reading specialist, while she was out on maternity leave! Mrs. Dillon went above and beyond to support our team during very challenging times. She made amazing connections with students and balanced two different schools with MANY schedule changes! We wish Mrs. Dillon the best and hope our paths cross with her again in the future! We will miss you!
Welcome back to Mrs. Lenc our reading specialist! She had a beautiful baby girl, Isla! She will be helping benchmark students and supporting classrooms in the coming weeks and will start working with groups of students February 10th. We've missed you, Mrs. Lenc!
If your child is coming in-person, we appreciate you self-certifying daily. Below, we explain the process of our self-certification system, so you know what is occurring behind the scenes to ensure a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff!
Thank you for ALL of your continued support. We couldn't do this without you!
Respectfully,
Keeley Schmid

Winter Benchmark Testing Starts This Week!
Indian Prairie School District 204 will administer aimswebPlus benchmark assessments in the winter, and spring to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. These assessments may be delivered remotely or in person. These brief Illinois Learning Standards aligned assessments evaluate student academic performance and growth in the areas of reading and mathematics. Specifically, depending on grade level, literacy measures will assess vocabulary, phonological awareness, word recognition, reading comprehension and reading fluency. Additionally, depending on grade level, numeracy measures will assess number sense, operations, algebraic thinking, measurement/data, geometry, fractions and ratios/proportions. The assessment results are used by teachers and administrators to assist with instructional planning and differentiation at the grade, classroom and student level.
Should you have any questions regarding aimswebPlus, please contact the school principal.
Interventions During Hybrid Instruction
Due to the hybrid transition and winter benchmarking, interventions (Reading Intervention, Math Intervention, Talent Development, EL/Bilingual) will follow the schedule below:
- Week of the 25th and Week of February 1st: All interventions are canceled due to benchmark testing. Benchmarking data is used to create winter intervention groups.
- February 10th: Winter Intervention Groups begin.
Attendance is Important!
During our hybrid instruction schedule, attendance will be taken during your child's live time with the teacher (in-person or live remotely). If your child will be absent, please call our attendance line at 630-428-6810. If your child is absent and you have not called your child in, you will receive an attendance call. If we do not hear back from you, the child's absence will be marked truant.

January Bobcat Trait: Citizenship
In teaching citizenship this month, we are focusing on the following:
Respecting differences (equity)
Contributing to your community
Being responsible
Taking care of our school
We appreciate the support you are providing from home in reinforcing our monthly trait. Have you captured your child in action demonstrating citizenship? We would love to see it! Ideas may be photos of our Bobcats volunteering, picking up trash in the community, paying it forward, etc. Please note by adding photos to this folder, you are giving permission for others to view. ***We have not had any photos submitted yet and would love to feature them on our morning announcements!
Brookdale Staff Member Wins A+ Award for January!
Here is what the district shared in their congratulatory email to Mrs. Federhofer:
"Congratulations! We are so proud of you and appreciate you going above and beyond for your students. Your nominator, parent Kelly Mahoney, shared many wonderful things about you and said that she nominated you “for going above and beyond to create meaningful and impactful learning connections for the students to thrive during remote learning.” It is apparent that you are truly an outstanding educator, for which we are grateful."
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the district team and Wells Fargo were not able to surprise Mrs. Federhofer as they have done in the past, so once the Bobcats were notified, they surprised her with the news! Click here to see the fun!
I see all of the nominations come through and know many of you have nominated staff members at Brookdale and for that we are incredibly grateful! Whether it is an A+ nomination, a kind email, or kind words in passing, we appreciate the continuous support more than we can express! We will continue to show that Brookdale Pride!
