SOARING EAGLE NEWS
JANUARY 2022
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
When a student is absent from school for any reason, parents are to send in a written note to the teacher explaining the absence or email the school at cypresswoodses.absence@pcsb.org and copy the teacher on the email. Absences will remain unexcused until such documentation is received by the school. Children with poor attendance patterns may be referred to the Pinellas County Truancy Intervention Program. Class work is required to be made up during or after an excused absence. Upon returning to school following an excused absence, a student has as many days to make up the work as days absent. A doctor’s note is required to excuse a student from PE for more than 3 days and documentation is required for absences exceeding 5 days. Below are some helpful hints to help your student maintain healthy attendance habits.

“Sophia McParland always does a GREAT job at her duty post in the morning.”
“Sophia McParland has her post outside of my building, I assume morning and afternoon. She opens the bathroom doors by the café because she saw me doing this one morning and decided that she would be helpful from then on. She is quite small and adorable… and always in a very good mood!”
“I would like to recommend Sophia McParland. She is always cheerful and interactive with staff and students. She is always on her post on time. Sophia also makes sure that all the students are walking very safely.”

Happy New Year Volunteers!
Thank you, to all who entered their volunteer hours for the first semester! We really appreciate it ❤ You have logged over 15K hours so far, including the Great American Teach In! If you have not yet entered your hours, we still want them to count. Please go ahead and log ALL your volunteer hours into the volunteer system under the current date/month. Please do not back-date your entries as it will crash our volunteer system. I have attached instructions for the volunteer system and entering hours to this email that include the correct web page address and the login format. Every hour counts; Classroom Assistance, Tutoring, Filed Trip Chaperone, Field Day, Library/Media Center, Book Fairs, Lunch Pals/Mentoring, SAC Meetings, PTA Meetings, even if helping from home! The hours are what’s most important, not necessarily the date, so feel free to enter your hours all at once under the same date. You only need to differentiate in multiple entries if you were doing different tasks. These hours are reported to the Department of Education in Tallahassee and reflect the community involvement at our school and support the volunteer program in general. If you have any trouble navigating the volunteer system, please let me know so I can help.
