Jackson Jaguars ROAR 2021-2022
October 2021
Jackson Families,
Home to School Chats
The Jackson Staff would like to thank all of our parents/guardians and families who attended our first annual Home to School Chats!
Since we tried something new this year to help inform families of what their children do during the day, we would really like your feedback!
Please fill out the short survey that your child(ren) brought home on Friday, EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T ATTEND. We would like to know what your thoughts are and how we can improve our communication and connection between Home and School.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Our annual fall Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up! During the week of October 25-October 28, families will engage in one on one conferences with Jackson teachers virtual OR in person (parents'/guardians' choice).
During this meeting, parents/guardians will hear what your child is doing academically and ask any questions you may have.
Please sign up on Sign-Up Genius! Your child's teacher will send you the link on Dojo. If you are unable to receive Dojo messages, please let your teacher know so they can help you sign up in a different way.
You can participate in a virtual conference or in person! You choose, but you must sign up ahead of time for the type of conference you want to have.
Family Activities
Along with Parent/Teacher Conferences, families will be able to participate in 3 activities. We will hold these activities in the gym for in-person conferences OR we will send them home for virtual conferences.
After completing your conference AND the 3 activities, your child will receive a $5 gift certificate to spend in the Book Fair!
As always, if you still have some questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you,
Sara Miller

Counseling Corner with Mrs. Ruiz
We are well into the school year and approaching the end of Quarter 1. We continue to teach students about their feelings--that all of their feeling are ok. We are encouraging our Jackson Jaguars to identify their feelings and then learn how to regulate their emotions. You can help at home as well.
ALL feelings are VALID feelings
6 Simple Ways to Help Kids Manage Emotions
At home you can encourage your children to play outside while the weather is still nice. You can go on family walks, notice nature as it changes, have an evening meal together, and designate a technology-free time at least once per day.
Encourage your children to color, draw, listen to music, play with toys, walk the dog, build with legos, ride bikes, play sports and any other creative healthy activities. Have fun laughing and smiling with your children!
Times are hard but we can all continue to enjoy life! Reach out if you need anything.
There are still Care and Share food bags available. Just send me an email at leslie.ruiz@d11.org or call me at (719) 328-5836.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need anything.
Please feel free to send me a dojo message, call me, or email me at leslie.ruiz@d11.org with any questions.

Battle of the Books
Jackson Elementary will participate this year in the Battle of the Books competition. Fifth graders are invited to join this program that combines reading a variety of good books with a “knowledge bowl’ format where the students respond to questions asked. Teams from all over the area will meet in April for the competition. Our students will start meeting on Fridays during recess/lunch in October.
Kids Collections on Display
We offer the students the opportunity to display their collections from home in the Media Center display case. The students really enjoy sharing their collections with their classmates and the display case is locked if security is a concern.
To sign up call Mrs. Sobecki (328-5824) or send an email to rhonda.sobecki@d11.org. Please help make this a special way to let your child share their interest or hobby at school.
I would like to thank Mrs. Struckel for sharing her collection.
We are working on getting information on helping families get Internet connections at home for our school devices. Please let the office know if this is information you are going to need.
Thanks,
Rhonda Sobecki
