General News! Week of Dec. 11th- 15th
Holiday Greetings !
It is hard to believe that we are bringing this first semester to a close. Before we can relax, and enjoy some holiday cheer, it is important to remind you that all student work must be completed and turned in before the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 15th. Teachers will be finalizing grades before students return on Thursday, January 4th.
Thursday After School...This week our focus will be on trying to get students who have missed some of our mastery assessments, RI/MI, or the Assesslet Writing test. These scores are necessary to help us wrap things up for the semester. Other students should have all assignments completed and turned in by then, and should not need to attend this week. If you have a question or concern about your child, please drop one of us a note. Please remember your child must have a signed permission slip in order to stay, as well as an indication of how they will be getting home. Pick up is at 3:45. Thank you for being prompt!
We hope you will all have a safe and enjoyable break!

Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
Language Arts
This Week in Language Arts we will be wrapping up our novel Behind Rebel Lines. The students had two writing assignments that were to be completed and turned in by last Friday. Both of these were given more than enough class time to complete, as well as students having the opportunity to work on them before school, during RAP on Friday,or at home. Students were told that these would not be accepted after Friday, but apparently they didn't believe me, because many of them did not turn in one or both of these, and their grades are suffering because of it. Today I offered an alternative assignment for partial credit rather than the "0s" they currently have; hopefully they will take advantage of this very generous offer.
Scores for the Narrative Assesslet are starting to come back in, but we may not have everyone's' scores until after the holiday break. When we do have them, we will review their work, and determine the things that they did well, as well as what they need to work on in the second semester.
Our 3rd and final Choice Reading book for this quarter was due last Friday, December 8th. Students who are missing any of their books for this quarter will have until this Friday, December 15th. It is not too late to get these done!
We have finished nine weeks of TweenTribune, yet we still have some students who are not completing this assignment. This consistent practice will help students build up the reading endurance that they will need for high school and beyond, as well as to increase their Lexile levels, and ability to identify textual evidence to answer questions. Students who have not taken advantage of this independent work may find themselves struggle to keep up with us in the second semester.
Thanks for all you do at home!
Science- Mrs. Madera
Physical Science
Last week we completed our topic on Energy! Students had their Mastery Assessment on Energy on Thursday, December 7th. The topics that they were tested on were: Potential and Kinetic Energy, Law of Conservation of Energy, Forms of Energy, Energy Transformations, and Heat Energy (Conduction, Convection, and Radiation).
Students will need to remediate on their failed standards and retest by Friday, December 15th.
This week we will be focusing on the introduction to waves.
Please check google classroom for additional practice links and simulations.
Social Studies- Mrs. Bense
Please take a look at your student’s grade in power school. There are many students that have missing work and are not taking the opportunities presented to them to get this work completed.
Today in class students worked on remediation for the Statehood Mastery Assessment. Students only received work pertaining to standards they did not pass. They were given the entire block to work on this. The remediation work and the retest needs to be completed by this December 15th.
This week our focus will be on the Civil War. The vocabulary words are the same and links to Quizlet and Study Stack are on Google Classroom.
Nightly Homework: Look over vocabulary, graphic organizers, and complete any work not finished in class.
Mr. Frazier
This week, Team 8-2 Mathematics will complete our study of the Pythagorean Theorem. After reviewing on Monday, we will take our Master Assessment #3, which covers the Pythagorean Theorem and Volume. However, due to the upcoming holiday, we will finish the Volume portion when we return. Hopefully, this will facilitate good scores while the lessons on Pythagorean Theorem are fresh in each student’s mind.
Many students are still missing work and/or have incomplete assignments. Zeros have been entered for all missing/incomplete assignments and have resulted in numerous failing grades. All students have been advised on what they are missing, but many haven’t requested to make-up the work. This week is likely the last week for students to get missing work in as grades will be finalized shortly after the Winter Break. Please encourage the students to complete the work this week.
