Math Workshop
Ask your Maple to share their strategies and mathematical thinking at home with you while cooking or while counting small groups of objects at home!
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
This field trip provided us with a fantastic experience to further interact with nature. The children loved the experience, and nearly all expressed an interest in going back.
Thank you to the parents who dedicated their time to this trip. If you were unable to join us on this trip, we'd love to include you on our next adventure.
Reading Workshop
The Maples are working hard on building their stamina during private reading. We practiced reading emergent storybooks for at least 5 minutes each day! Next week, we will challenge the Maples to read for at least 10 minutes. Teachers shared that they have a special superpower: we can see students’ reading brains glow and sparkle when they are really thinking about the books that they are reading. Some of the reading lessons that we were engaged with were:
*Readers use books to tell a story and one thing you can do is use the picture to think about who is in the story and what is happening on each page.
*Readers pay attention to reading the whole book. We can read the beginning, the middle, and the end of our stories so we don’t leave any juicy parts out.
*Readers notice the trouble in our stories, and then pay attention to how that trouble gets resolved. Often when you get to the trouble in a story you find yourself says, “uh-oh!’, and then you pay really close attention to how that trouble gets solved. The pictures can really help you do this work.
*When readers read stories, we really try to make our stories sound just like the author wrote them. We can do this by looking at the pictures and trying to say as much as we can about them.

Important Reminders
November Conferences:
We sent out a Doodle link for families to sign up for November conferences. If you were unable to sign up for a time, please email us so that we can find a time for you to come in and meet with us. We will be sending out individual confirmations and reminders. Please remember to show up 15 minutes prior to your conference to review your child’s progress report.
Early Dismissal:
Due to November conferences next week, students will have a half-day on Thursday and Friday. Dismissal will by at 12 p.m on both Thursday and Friday to accommodate conferences.Wednesday’s schedule will remain the same: dismissal at 12:45 p.m.
Blue Folders:
To familiarize students with this routine, we are planning to send blue folders home with students daily. Some evenings the folders will contain work that must stay at home or be returned to school. The children know to place blue folders in the large wicker basket atop the wood working table each morning when they come to school.
