School Closure
Fulton Public Schools, in conjunction with other area schools, local health and government officials, continue to monitor the latest developments regarding COVID-19, more commonly known as the novel coronavirus. To help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff, and to do our part in trying to slow down the spread of COVID-19 throughout our area, Fulton Public Schools is announcing an extended school closure.
This closure will begin on Wednesday, March 18th, and preliminarily end April 3rd, 2020,(this closure includes the district’s Spring Break, which was already scheduled for March 23rd-27th) with classes resuming on April 6, 2020. All school activities during the time of school closure, including all athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, have been canceled.
The decision to close our school district was extremely difficult, made in consultation with area Superintendents and out of an abundance of caution for our families. We know that closing school will have a significant impact on our families, but we also believe that strong, urgent action is needed to prevent the spread of this disease and to save lives.
Plans are being created to address food needs of our students. More information will be available as this is determined.
Individual buildings throughout the district will be communicating information regarding activities that can be done at home and students are being sent home with materials as well. There is a new tab on the FPS website at www.fulton58.org labeled COVID-19, (click here). Under this tab you will find all resources and communications - this will be continually updated. The typical modes of communication including email, Facebook, Twitter, and SchoolMessenger calls, texts, and email will be used during the time of school closure to keep everyone updated.
Our goal is to always protect the safety, health, and wellness of our students, staff, and families. As a community, we are stronger as we work together to protect each other. In the meantime, please follow the advice of our health officials including the practice of proper handwashing and social distancing by limiting attendance to group gatherings.
We will continue to remain in contact with public health officials, elected leaders, and surrounding school districts and keep parents and media updated as information becomes available.
We thank our community for being supportive and partners with FPS as we move forward.
For basic questions involving COVID-19, please refer to the guidance and recommendations that are being disseminated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), located here:https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html
