Mini Monster Sighting!
November Newsletter 2014
Miss Schmidt's Kindergarten Class
We have been working so hard in Kindergarten! We wanted to share, with you, some of the activities that we completed and participated in for the month of November! Hope you enjoy!
New Writing Centers!
In November, we introduced new writing centers to our class! These centers have the students practicing their full name (first and last name), making lists, journal writing, and more! Every week, the students go to all three centers and are able to practice their skills at each center. We have some great writers in our class!
In December, we will be focusing on how to write a card. Be sure to keep look for our amazing writing pieces!
Journal Writing Center
Students can use their writing folder to help them form sentences. The writing folders come with words, sentence starters, and pictures to help with ideas!
Letter Center
The letter center helps students form their letter correctly. We learn how to write our letters on the lines and where they start. Also, we practice writing our first and last name!
List it!
The list center helps students create a list and how we can use them in our life.
Measuring Machines
November was all about measuring! The students learned how to measure and compare objects with non-standard objects (cubes, coins, string, etc). We measured things such as our feet, pictures, and even our room! After measuring with non-standard objects, we then moved on to scales and weight.
Comparing
Everyone traced and cut our their foot. Next, they went around the room comparing their foot size. We used words like bigger, smaller, longer, and shorter!
Ready, Set, Go!
The race was on! We had to find the shortest and tallest person in our room. It was crazy, but fun!
White Boards
Each student was given a white board, dry erase marker, and asked questions about measurement. I was able to see all of their answers at one time; how amazing is that! They loved being able to show off their work and were excited when they were correct!
Don't Eat the Turkey!
Since it was November, we talked about turkey! We read many books were the turkey had to hide and dressed himself up as different things. After reading, we decided to help the turkey out and tell people to eat different food! Each student made a turkey and then told people what they should eat instead. A popular idea was to eat pizza instead!
