Red Ribbon Week Recap
What an exciting Red Ribbon Week celebration! Our students and staff actively participated in our spirit days and our students seemed to enjoy the lunch time trivia, giveaways, and photo booth opportunities. Thank you to the PTO for their generous donations that made this week a success! Diwali Celebrations Diwali is India’s largest and most important holiday of the year. This year, Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, October 24. Diwali is also known as Festival of Lights. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Before Diwali night, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes. On the night of Diwali, families light candles and clay lamps and place them throughout homes and in the streets to light up the dark night. The evening begins with prayers, fireworks follow, then a family feast of sweets, and, lastly, an exchange of gifts between family members and close friends. Diwali is primarily celebrated by followers of the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths. However, the holiday is celebrated throughout India, Singapore, and several other South Asian countries as a national holiday, meaning that people outside these religions may participate in Diwali celebrations, too. Next Monday and Tuesday, we will have a few opportunities for our students to learn more about Diwali. We have coordinated with Food Service to bring Indian Food to the cafeteria on Monday, October 24 (6th Grade) and Tuesday, October 25 (5th Grade) to help us celebrate. Additionally, we will have an informational morning announcement, coloring pages available during lunch, and an opportunity to play trivia. We hope these small gestures will provide an opportunity for students to celebrate here at school and for others to learn more about the Diwali celebration. We are encouraging students to wear bright colors or traditional Indian attire on Monday to celebrate Diwali. We look forward to seeing a school full of light and bright colors! Counselor Conferences As a reminder, Ms. Moiseeff and Ms. Boedeker are available to meet with families during conferences next week. We are happy to either join the conference with your teacher or set up a separate appointment. Please reach out to us to schedule a time. 5th grade: Ms. Boedeker 6th grade: Ms. Moiseeff

NEW VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS
In an effort to update our volunteer background check process, we have recently made a transition to a digital ICHAT form. It is our hope that this will eliminate the need for paper copies and streamline the process. We realize that some of you may have already submitted a paper copy and been approved to volunteer.
We would ask that by November 1, 2022, any volunteer who previously submitted a paper copy of our previous background check form, submit a new request through our online link, which can be found on our website at: NCSD Chaperone & Volunteer Background Check Information.
We ask that all volunteers complete the online form as soon as possible, but please be assured that we will continue to allow those who have been previously approved since the start of the school year to volunteer until November 1, 2022.
After November 1, 2022, only volunteers who have submitted the new background check request and have been approved, may volunteer.
We apologize for the inconvenience of submitting the information twice, but hope that the benefits of this new method will be worthwhile.
Please keep in mind that if you plan on volunteering in multiple buildings, you must complete the request separately for each school. This will ensure that your information is routed to the correct building that you will be volunteering in.
We are incredibly grateful for all of our volunteers and hope that this new process will help our office staff process the requests in a timely manner, without needing to wait for a paper form to be delivered to the office, and provide you with an easier way to submit your request at your convenience.

New Student Acceptable Use Agreement
The NCSD Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) is a document signed by all students and parents/guardians. This agreement lists the proper technology and internet use that students are required to follow when using a district device, school account, or on the NCSD school network.
Family Tech Agreements
Similar to how classrooms may have device agreements, families can also create one to keep everyone accountable for their technology use at home. A family tech agreement is a great way to build healthy digital habits. Check out some resources below to get started.
