School News
Thank you all for an amazing start to the 2022-2023 school year as we had a great first week! As we transition to more of our Mariners being car riders and being dropped off in the morning, I wanted to remind families of some items. We have two drop off points in the morning, the bus loop and the front car line. Due to the way our campus is set up, it is just as easy for a child to walk from the bus loop to the atrium (center of the building) as it is the front car line. Therefore, I wanted to reassure parents, regardless of grade, both are the same distance in terms of steps to the school. We do ask that other than our 3K and 4K students that all students, 5K-5th grade, enter in through one of these main entrances. Once in the building, we have adults stationed throughout the school to ensure your child gets to the location they need to be.
When using the carline in the morning, please make sure your child has everything they need packed and ready to go prior to getting out of the car (such as their backpacks, water bottles etc.) If your child needs additional time or support from you to get out of the vehicle, we kindly ask that you park in the front of the building and walk your child to the crosswalk. As a safety issue, should you need to get out of your car for any reason in the carline, you need to drive on through and park your car and help your child. We have cars passing on the outer lane of the drive, and it is not safe for parents or students to exit from the driver's side at any time. All students MUST get out on the passenger's side of the car and step directly onto the sidewalk. Thanks for your support in keeping your child safe.
Beginning Monday, all visitors who enter the school in the morning must have their driver's license with them to enter the building beyond the kiosk area. Also, this week, we have our Volunteer and Mentor Training on Friday at 8:30am in the library. Should you be interested, we do ask that you attend this training session as there are procedures that must be followed, if supporting the school in this capacity. Volunteering can be in the form of supporting school events and classroom teachers to helping students, whenever you are available. Our mentoring program is for those who are willing to give up a portion of their time each week to support a child on our camps. We hope to see everyone this Friday to find out ways you can support our school community!
Just as a continued reminder, breakfast and lunch are returning to regularly priced meals: Breakfast is $1.80 and lunch is $3.30. If your child is eating in the cafeteria, please make sure you either place money on your child's account through the parent portal in the K-12 Payment Center or send in a check payable to LMES.
Lastly, we hope to see you at our PTA sponsored Pelican's event from 3pm-7pm on Thursday! A proceed of all the sales made during this time go to back to the school! So enjoy a yummy treat with other Mariners and help the school at the same time!! Sounds like a WIN WIN!!
Looking forward to seeing all of our MARVELOUS MARINERS tomorrow morning!! The LMES EXPRESS is ready to roll on FULL STEAM AHEAD into the week!!
Sincerely,
Jennifer

Apply now for free/reduced-price meals
The application for free and reduced-price meals* is now open. If you believe that you might qualify for free or reduced-price meals, you MUST complete this online application. We encourage families to complete the application as soon as possible to ensure their student is able to enjoy low-cost, nutritious meals when school starts in August.*As a reminder, students will be required to begin paying for meals again when school begins in August, unless they qualify for the free and reduced-price meals program. For two years, public schools across the country, including Lexington District One, provided no-cost breakfast and lunch meals to all students thanks to waivers through the United States Department of Agriculture associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This federal funding and waiver system expired on June 30, 2022, and Congress did not extend the program.
